This area of the island was until recently unknown to me. Candelaria is an important town located a few kilometers south of Santa Cruz, the capital. There is a small but beautiful trail that starts south of Candelaria, near an industrial area not far from Güimar, and ends just around the Basilica of Candelaria, an important religious monument for the locals and the whole island.

On this trail, I was surprised to come across a small and beautiful beach hidden among the coastal cliffs along the path. If I didn't know about the existence of this trail before, I didn't know about this wild and hidden beach along the way. The Canary Islanders in general are very jealous of those places that remain untouched by mass tourism. Sometimes they keep the location of places like these to themselves if they are too difficult to find, or they get angry with those social media influencers who reveal their location.
En este sendero tuve la sorpresa de toparme con una pequeña y hermosa playa escondida entre los acantilados costeros por donde transcurre el camino. Si anteriormente no sabía de la existencia de este sendero, menos de esta playa salvaje y escondida en el camino. Los canarios en general son muy celosos de aquellos lugares que permanecen vírgenes ante el turismo masivo. Algunas veces suelen guardarse la ubicación de sitios como estos si son muy difíciles de encontrar, o se enojan con aquellos influencer en redes sociales que revelan su ubicación.
In the case of this small beach, whose name is Samarines, there does not seem to be much secrecy as to its location, since it is in the middle of the route of this trail (besides the fact that it is marked on Maps). The path to get to it is not easy, so most people would not be encouraged to go there even knowing it exists. But the location of many other sites in Tenerife are jealously guarded by the locals, in an attempt to preserve them. Although I understand and support this attitude, which seeks to conserve these sites, a part of me feels that it is not fair to all tourists, as some are aware and respectful of nature and the locals. But I don't think there is much that can be done about it.
En el caso de esta pequeña playa, cuyo nombre es Samarines, no parece haber mucho secretismo en cuanto a su ubicación, ya que se encuentra en medio del recorrido de este sendero (además de que está señalizada en Maps). El camino para llegar a ella no es fácil, por lo que la mayoría de las personas no se animarían a ir allí incluso sabiendo que existe. Pero la ubicación de muchos otros sitios en Tenerife son celosamente guardados por los locales, en un intento por conservarlos. Aunque entiendo y apoyo esta actitud, que busca conservar estos sitios, una parte de mi siente que no es justo para todos los turistas, ya que algunos sí son conscientes y respetuosos con la naturaleza y los locales. This trail started further south, on an October day, specifically where a small beach called "Playa del Socorro de Gúimar" is located. In the place, there is a small neighborhood and some buildings along an avenue that borders the coast, until reaching another neighborhood that must be crossed to reach the "rural" beginning of the trail. Continuing further north, the trail makes slight and moderate ascents and descents along the coast, along the cliffs facing the sea. There are some areas where the trail is very well marked, with beautiful views of the ocean.
Este recorrido inició más al sur, en un día de octubre, específicamente en donde se encuentra una pequeña playa llamada "Playa del Socorro de Gúimar". En el lugar hay un pequeño vecindario y algunas construcciones a lo largo de una avenida que bordea la costa, hasta llegar a otro vecindario que se debe atravesar para llegar al inicio "rural" del sendero. Continuando más al norte, el sendero realiza ligeras y moderadas subidas y bajadas bordeando la costa, por sobre los acantilados que se encuentran frente al mar. Existen algunas zonas donde el sendero está muy bien delimitado, y con vistas muy hermosas hacia el oceáno.
In the middle of the route, the aforementioned Samarines Beach. This area has quite clear and calm waters. It is a beach with black sand and rounded stones where it provokes a good bath. The beach has a cave at one end, which I did not dare to enter because the place was a little lonely. The valley that generates the beach also goes a little inland and creates a very photogenic area. The trail continues on the other side of the beach and rises again to continue with the second half of the route.
En medio del recorrido, la mencionada Playa de Samarines. Esta zona posee aguas bastante claras y tranquilas. Es una paya con arena negra y piedras redondeadas en donde realmente provocaun buen baño. La playa posee una cueva en uno de sus extremos, a la cual no me animé a entrar ya que el lugar se encontraba un poco solo. El valle que genera la playa también se interna un poco hacia tierra adentro, y crea una zona bastante fotogénica. El sendero continúa al otro lado de la playa, y vuelve a elevarse para continuar con la segunda mitad del recorrido.
In the second half of the route, almost reaching the town of Candelaria, the trail passes very close to a military installation, specifically of the Guardia Civil. There were some dogs of the civil guard around the place. Having arrived at this point, the trail practically ends, since the Basilica of Candelaria looms on the horizon and the buildings of the town. This trail surprised me with this hidden beach halfway along its route, characteristic of the oceanic and wild landscapes of the island of Tenerife.
En la segunda mitad del recorrido, ya casi llegando a la población de Candelaria, el sendero pasa muy cerca a una instalación militar, específicamente de la Guardia Civil. Habían algunos perros de la guardia civil por el lugar. Ya habiendo llegado a este punto, prácticamente finaliza el recorrido, ya que la Basícila de Candelaria se asoma en el horizonte y los edificios de dicha localidad. Este sendero me sorprendió con dicha playa escondida a mitad de su recorrido, característico de los paisajes oceánicos y salvajes de la isla de Tenerife.
The return to the starting point was made along an avenue located further up and parallel to the trail, which reaches the avenues and blocks of an industrial zone that connects with the road initially traveled. Along this road (Calle Playa de Lima), there is a beach, but it is not very inviting for swimming. A lo largo de esta vía (Calle Playa de Lima), existe una playa, pero esta no es del todo apetecible para el baño. La Playa del Socorro de Gúimar, la pequeña playa al inicio del recorrido, es una playa que sí se veía apetecible, y acumulaba bastantes personas en el lugar.
