For today dear Hiveans the way from the Town Hall in Basel to the main station. The town hall is a 500 year old building located in the middle of the old town, directly at the market place it attracts special attention with his wonderful architecture, red facade, the imposing tower and the decorative paintings on the facade.
A beautiful city with a beautiful old town, architectur ,museums, cultur and certainly most important the Rhine. It is situated at the border trio point Switzerland- Germany - France with suburbs in all three countries.
Strolling along the Bridge over the Rhine a symbol of Basel, it was opened about 1226 and is one of the oldest Rhine crossings between Lake Constance and the North Sea. The actual bridge, however, dates back to 1905.
In background picture right side the Roche Tower with its 175 meter height makes the surrounding buildings look tinydear Hi.
In addition, Basel is one of the most dynamic economic region in Switzerland and one of the worls productive and innovative city. Globally leading companies in the life sciences industry have their headquarters in the Basel region. Today a top address for life sciences and healthcare in Europe.
According to Wikipedia, the representative train station building with neo-baroque facade was built between 1905 and 1907 by Emil Faesch and Emanuel La Roche.
Here the 15-meter-long painting of Lake Lucerne by Ernst Hodel at the entry to the central main station is one of the largest paintings in Switzerland. However, the ravages of time have left their mark on it and it will soon be 96 years old. SBB therefore restored the work, which dates from 1927, as well as four other paintings last time for a cost of around 100,000 Swiss francs.
