Do you know what the problem is with casual walks around a city you don't know? Usually, afterwards, you have no idea where you were or what you saw, especially when you want to revisit the memories a year later. Well, my short adventure in Copenhagen was kind of like this. Fortunately, there were a few distinctive points during that day that allow me today to outline the general framework of the walk.
I had planned to do the entire sightseeing on foot, so the area was limited to the vicinity of the train station. It's a pity I don't enjoy cycling because it is probably the best way to explore the Copenhagen. It's incredible how many people travel around the city this way and how well the infrastructure is prepared.
So, the first stop was Tivoli (right next to the railway station), which I mentioned in my previous post - let's go further today.
I don't remember the beginning of the route very well, but I managed to locate this beautiful building that made a huge impression on me - it's the Marble Church, also known as Frederik's Church. I couldn't resist and went inside.

As a fan of the Krakow Fortress, I really enjoy all kinds of fortifications, so the next stop on my walk is Kastellet, a very well-preserved pentagon-shaped citadel, located on the strait that separates the small island of Amager from Zealand, the largest island of Denmark.
The fortress was built in the 17th century as part of the defensive ring surrounding the capital of Denmark. It was improved over the centuries and is still in use today as a military facility. It's surrounded by a beautiful, extensive park. That's exactly what I needed after spending a few hours in the bustling Tivoli.

The entire citadel is surrounded by a wide moat, and I was amazed by the abundance of waterfowl living in this area. It's evident that they live here peacefully, accustomed to people. Generally, I got the impression that birds are welcomed and safe in Copenhagen.

As I head towards the quay, I pass by the impressive Gefion Fountain.

We are at the quayside, and from here, we start our return walk towards the main train station, enjoying the sights along the way. The two small buildings are the Royal Pavilions. This is where every official foreign visit arriving by sea is received.
Strolling along the promenade is a real pleasure.
We can admire the old boats...
...and visit the symbol of Copenhagen - the Little Mermaid statue. By the way - I still remember the original version of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, which doesn't end as happily as modern versions.
We reach The Kissing Stars, with a joyful, almost summer-like atmosphere where people are sunbathing and even swimming!

Finally, we turn into Nyhavn, a picturesque canal surrounded by colorful houses.

I don't remember much from the rest of the route towards the station. I must admit, I was tired from both the distance and the hustle and bustle in popular spots.

With relief, I sought shelter in the spacious and very interesting interior of the main train station. Here we can catch a train to Malmö via the Øresund Bridge.

I always have mixed feelings in such moments. I'm glad I could spend even just a moment in a new place, but I do feel insufficiency too, because I would like to delve deeper. Well, it's impossible to see everything. Such a pity ;)
So, today we're leaving Copenhagen, and in the next post, we will say goodbye to Malmö in the same style - by strolling around. See you soon!
