Mürren! Day 2
It took me a long time get here, but I was doing a lot of detours. That said, I have arrived at Mürren and that’s the place I am staying. If you think that place is expensive, you would be wrong. I have gotten an amazing deal at booking.con cost me only $110 for the night. For the record at middle of nowhere Amarillo, TX I have stayed at a motel room for $220! Rooms are expensive lately in the US!
I will totally take this place with the view back this this:
For those who do not know this….
The Allmendhubel funicular is directly connected to the "Bob Run," a famous sledging track in Mürren where parts of the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service were filmed, including a thrilling bobsleigh chase scene.
That is the place. It goes up to Piz Gloria which is a mountain peak, but that will be tomorrow as today it is too cloudy at 4pm and beyond. However, the reason I got delayed because I went to Moosfluh, which is a viewpoint above Reideralp, to see Aletsch glacier again! Well you can never have too much of a valley glacier!
Isn’t that view gorgeous. This is further down from the viewpoint above Bettmeralp. Therefore it gives a wider perspective!
Also there were plenty of cows with classic Swiss cow bells and that is the only thing you hear around here.
After the detour
Well I the journey to Muren was complicated but it was not difficult. It just involved a lot of transfers.
First I took the Cable Car down from Moosfluh to Mörel
Then a train from Mörel to Briggs
Then train from Briggs to Speiz
Another train from Speiz to Interlaken OST
Yet another train from Interlaken OST to Lauterbrunnen
A cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp
Finally a train from Grütschalp to Mürren
Although it looks immensely complicated from the text, but Swiss rail system is well marked and all transfers have the right amount of time gap, so I managed this whole thing without any problems in 4 hours!
How is Mürren like?
It’s pretty and large village and with a lot of tourists! But perhaps not too overcrowded!
I have been able to take shots like this. Also I laughed at shots like below!
There is always Japanese tourists in Switzerland and most places and they are fun to be around!
Views are pretty all around and I had some good French wine for dinner already. Piz Gloria peak tomorrow and I am going to give a talk tonight, so that’s all I have today! Chao!
That is pretty cool. You are right, $110 per night is pretty amazing. We have some places similar to this in Michigan where they try to recreate the experience of the Swiss Alps at ski resorts, but obviously the elevations are much different!
I got a discount pricing for shoulder season I am guessing!
A rare photograph of the Japanese tourist. It seems to levitate. Switzerland is unique. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Japanese tourists are very common in Switzerland and several other popular destinations. All Asians love to take their pictures dynamic, ready for Instagram!

Woo. Hermoso lugar
I see cows I MOOOOOO!!!
I feel like US in general is getting a little expensive compared to the rest of the world...
😲 Wow, your trip to Mürren sounds complicated in text, but it was so much fun! Wow, you were able to enjoy all the Swiss transportation transfers seamlessly in 4 hours. The view of the Aletsch Glacier and the countryside with the cowbells really give you that classic Swiss vibe 🏔️🐄...
I'm curious, of all the places you stopped today, which one made you feel the most "worth it even though it was a long detour"? 🤔
This really looks good. Nature never disappoints with its beauty, but it's often humans who destroy it. What a treasure!
Have Switzerland on the list but still never got there. Looks amazing.
