Beaches, Caves, and Limestone Formations: A Tour of Phang Nga Province [part 1]

in Pinmapplelast year

Hello everyone

Growing up, I had a group of close friends with whom I used to spend every summer holiday. However, as we grew older and went our separate ways, we lost touch with each other. We all went to different universities, landed different jobs, and started our own lives. Despite this, we remained connected on social media, occasionally liking each other's posts, and leaving the occasional comment.

One day, after many years of not contacting each other, we decided to plan a trip together. It was a reunion of sorts, and we were all excited to see each other again. We reminisced about the old days, and it felt like we had never been apart. The last time we had all gone on a trip together was 11 years ago, to James Bond Island. It was a trip full of laughter, adventure, and unforgettable memories. It was a time when we were carefree, and life seemed so simple. We all agreed that we needed to do it again, and we started planning for our next adventure.

A few days ago, my friends and I were browsing through our Facebook page when we stumbled upon a tour operator advertising a full-day tour program called "LAZY JAMES BOND". It was an all-day adventure filled with activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and even a visit to a nearby cave. Without much hesitation, we bought the tickets for 1,400 baht (40.74$) per person, a great price for Thai people. For foreigners, the price was slightly higher, at 64.02$ per person.

The next morning, we woke up early, excited for the day ahead. At around 9.40 a.m., a van arrived at my house, and we hopped in, ready to start our adventure. The van took us to Laem Nga Pier in Phuket, where we would embark on our journey.

Upon arriving at the pier, we checked in, and the staff distributed white-purple wristbands to us. We were told that these wristbands would allow us to participate in all the activities planned for the day. The company had thought of everything, and even breakfast was prepared for us, a nice surprise.

Around 10.30 a.m., the staff gathered all the tourists and explained the program for the day. We were to take a speedboat to go to Koh Plong, a small island located a short distance from Phuket. About 25 tourists were joining this trip, and we all boarded the speedboat excitedly.

After leaving Laem Nga Pier in Phuket, our speedboat cruised towards Koh Plong. The journey took about 30 minutes, during which we enjoyed the beautiful views of the Andaman Sea. The cool breeze, combined with the scenic beauty, made the journey even more enjoyable. As we approached the island, we could see its lush green forests and pristine beaches. We were all excited to explore this paradise-like island and take part in the activities that awaited us.

As we made our way to Koh Plong, I couldn't help but feel excited to explore this hidden gem of Koh Yao. Koh Plong is a small island located in the Ko Yao Noi district of Phang Nga Province, and is known for its stunning sandbar that appears only during the low tide. The sandbar is about 2 kilometers long and stretches from Koh Plong to Koh Yao Noi, offering a unique and unforgettable experience for tourists who visit this island.

As we arrived at Koh Plong, we could see the beauty of the island right away. The crystal clear waters and the white sand beach were absolutely breathtaking. However, we soon realized that we had arrived at the island during high tide, which meant that the sandbar was not visible. This news came as a disappointment to all of us, as we had been looking forward to seeing the sandbar and taking some amazing pictures.

Despite the initial disappointment, we decided to make the most of our time on the island. We spent around 45 minutes swimming in the clear waters, exploring the beach, and taking some beautiful pictures. The scenery around us was truly mesmerizing, and the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the island was a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Our next stop was the famous James Bond Island, which was named after the 1974 James Bond movie "The Man with the Golden Gun." It took us about 30 minutes on the speedboat to reach the island. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by the iconic limestone cliffs that stood tall and proud against the clear blue sky.

As our speedboat approached James Bond Island, I couldn't help but notice the large limestone formations in the distance. As we got closer, I realized that the limestone had been eroded by the sea into small openings and crevices, creating a stunning sight. The hole in the limestone was so big that it almost resembled a very beautiful cave.

As we docked the speedboat at the island, I and my friends disembarked and made our way towards the limestone formations. The limestone cliffs towered above us, and we could see the small openings and crevices in the rocks up close. The view was breathtaking, and we spent some time admiring the natural beauty of the island.

After admiring the stunning limestone formations near the marina, my friends and I decided to follow the other tourists to see the famous Khao Tapu, or James Bond Island. The limestone rock, which was originally part of the island, was cut off by the erosion wave, leaving behind a prominent rock. The base of the rock is narrow, while the upper part is large, creating a unique and iconic shape that is recognizable all over the world.

As we approached Khao Tapu, we could see why it was such a popular tourist attraction. The towering rock rose up from the water, and the sight of it was truly impressive. We could see why the island had been used as a filming location for the James Bond movie "The Man with the Golden Gun."

After admiring Khao Tapu, my friends and I walked a short distance to see Khao Phing Kan. As we approached, we could see the two large flat stone slabs leaning against each other, with the blue sea as a backdrop. We took some time to take pictures and marvel at the natural wonder before us. The scenery was truly breathtaking, and we felt lucky to have the opportunity to witness it firsthand. As we walked around, we noticed many other tourists snapping photos and admiring the view.

As we stepped into the hollow, the cool and damp air wrapped around us. The guide led us down a rocky path into the cavern shapes varied from one formation to the next, creating an otherworldly. As I walked through the hollow, I couldn't help but think about the millions of years that it had taken for these formations to grow. The drops of water that had slowly trickled through the limestone over time, creating the unique shapes that we were witnessing. It was a humbling experience to stand amidst such natural wonders and realize the power and beauty of the world we live in.

After spending some time admiring the formations, my friend and I boarded a speedboat to head to our next destination: Koh Panyee this trip is not over yet and see you in part 2.
