Two days ago, while fixing my hardisk, I came across a folder entitled "Expo 2015" inside there were all the photos taken during my two visits to the EXPO in Milan. I obviously thought to share the experience with you, if you ever happen to be in the same city where the Universal Exhibition is located, you know you have to visit it!

Due giorni fa, mentre sistemavo il mio hardisk, mi sono imbattuta in una cartella dal titolo “ Expo 2015” all’interno c’erano tutte le fotografie scattate durante le mie due visite all’EXPO di Milano. Ho ovviamente pensato di condividere l’esperienza con voi, se mai vi dovesse capitare di trovarvi nella stessa città in cui si trova l’esposizione universale, sapete di doverla visitare!
HISTORY :
For those who do not know, I will explain briefly what is the expo and when it is born. The Universal Exhibition and the term EXPO was first used in 1851 during the first Universal Exhibition in London. It was organized inside the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, all thanks to the idea of the Queen’s husband.
The Eiffel Tower, symbol of Paris and France, was made for a universal exhibition, that of 1889. From here you understand the importance that at the time the expo had to have, a moment of exposure of innovations at the cultural, scientific, architectural and technological levels. The symbol of Expo Milan 2015 was “ the Tree of Life “

Per chi non lo sapesse, vi spiego brevemente cos’è l’expo e quando nasce. L’esposizione universale e il termine EXPO è stato per la prima volta utilizzato nel 1851 durante la prima esposizione universale di Londra. Fu organizzata all’interno del Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, tutto grazie all’idea del marito della regina.
La tour eiffel, simbolo di Parigi e della Francia, viene realizzata per un’esposizione universale, quella del 1889. Da qui capite l’importanza che ai tempi doveva avere l’expo, un momento di esposizione delle innovazioni a livello culturale, scientifico, architettonico e tecnologico. Il simbolo dell’Expo 2015 é stato “ L’albero della vita “
I’ve been to the EXPO in Milan twice, the first in September and the second in October. The Universal Exhibition was held in Milan from 1 May 2015 to 31 October 2016, for six months the city of Milan was invaded by tourists from all over the world. The theme of the Expo was " Feeding the planet, energies for life". In addition to respect for the planet, the focus was on the importance of nutrition, the lack of food in some areas of the planet and food education in respect of sustainability.
A truly important issue that we are still trying to follow in view of the 2030 agenda on sustainability and respect for the planet.
Sono stata all’EXPO di Milano per ben due volte, la prima a Settembre e la seconda a Ottobre. L’esposizione universale si è tenuta a Milano dal 1° Maggio del 2015 al 31 Ottobre del 2016, per ben sei mesi la città di Milano è stata invasa da turisti di tutto il mondo. Il tema dell’Expo è stato “ Nutrire il pianeta, energie per la vita “. Oltre al rispetto per il pianeta il focus era sull’importanza dell’alimentazione, la mancanza di cibo in alcune zone del pianeta e l’educazione alimentare nel rispetto della sostenibilità.
Una tematica veramente importante che ancora oggi stiamo cercando di seguire in vista dell’agenda del 2030 sulla sostenibilità e il rispetto del pianeta.
The 110-hectare exhibition center was created in the north-east of Milan, near the new Fiera di Milano.
The pole was surrounded by a water channel and divided inside with two main streets perpendicular to each other, called cardo and decumano, as the main streets of the ancient Roman cities. Piazza Italia was at the intersection of the two streets. To the north of the thistle there was the "Lake Arena", an artificial lake of about 100 square meters in the center of which was the tree of life, the symbol of the expo. At the end of the thistle was the "Open air theatre", an open-air theatre with about 9000 seats. The participating countries were 137 plus four international organizations: the European Commission, the Caribbean Community, the United Nations (UN) and the Pacific Islands Forum.
Il polo espositivo di 110 ettari fu creato nella parte nord-est di Milano, vicino alla nuova Fiera di Milano.
Il polo era circondato da un canale d’acqua e suddiviso al suo interno con due strade principali perpendicolari tra loro, denominate cardo e decumano, come le strade principali delle antiche città romane. Piazza Italia si trovava all’incrocio delle due strade. A nord del cardo vi era la “Lake Arena” , un lago artificiale di circa 100 mq al centro del quale si trovava l’albero della vita, il simbolo dell’expo. Alla fine del cardo vi era l’ “Open air theatre”, un teatro all’aperto con circa 9000 posti. I paesi partecipanti furono 137 più quattro organizzazioni internazionali: Commissione europea, Comunità Caraibica, Organizzazione Nazioni Unite (ONU) e Forum delle isole del Pacifico.
You could enter the expo from four different entrances, all were controlled by guards, before entering you had to go inside a metal detector. Once inside we found ourselves in a miniature city, formed by these large pavilions, all made in a different way. But about the pavilions and the ones that impressed me the most, I’ll tell you about them in the next article.
Si poteva entrare all’expo da quattro ingressi diversi, tutti erano controllati da guardie, prima di entrare si doveva passare all’interno di un metal detector. Una volta entrati ci si ritrovava dentro una città in miniatura, formata da questi grandi padiglioni, realizzati tutti in maniera diversa. Ma riguardo ai padiglioni e a quelli che mi hanno colpito maggiormente, ve ne parlerò nel prossimo articolo.
