Inspired by the desert: visiting Old Jaffa

Why Israel?

I grew up in a Catholic family and I received all the sacraments I was supposed to receive as a child and as a teenager, but as soon I started to get closer to Yoga and to spiritual studies, I started to feel like the Church is made more for control people than for believe and feel God and the soul.

I've listened about Israel since I was a little girl. All the Old Book in the Bible is about Israel. Noe, Moises, Abraham, and more people are from here, and of course... Jesus Christ...

My name, Belén, is originally from Israel since it makes reference to the star that MAry and Joseph follow to give the bird to baby Jesus. So... I have quite a relationship with this land.

And to all this, some month ago, I met my friend who is Israeli, so everything indicated that this was the next step. I had many doubts before coming here, but in the end, I decided to listen to my spirit, and it said: GO, DON'T THINK NO MORE...

And that's what I did. And here I am.

I always felt Italy like a country-home, because my family is from there, so literally, when I arrive in Italy, is like landing in Argentina, which is very familiar to everything to me.

Same thing with Israel. I mean, I haven't been to other cities yet, only Tel Aviv, but I walk around these streets and I really go crazy... and I feel like I know the place, the streets are familiar to me, and even I met 3 people yesterday whos faces looked familiar to me.

It sounds like I'm not well?? Maybe I'm not, lol! But it's what I feel.

Old Jaffa

Yesterday, I went to Old Jaffa with my friend! We had a great time. Before meeting her, I did a walk around Old Jaffa and then I went closer to the sea and enjoyed a lot this part of the Mediterranean Sea, which is very different from the Italian side since it has big and beautiful waves since in the other part, is particularly calm.

Old Jaffa is a part of the city that is noticeably different from Tel Aviv. Although they appear to be the same, they are not.

Tel Aviv is much more modern, the buildings are new and the constructions have a mix between history and the 20th-21st century. Old Jaffa features buildings dating from much longer.

It is a city very visited by tourists, since whoever arrives in Tel Aviv inevitably goes to Jaffa.

It is inhabited by Jews, Muslims, and Christians, and this is something that can be seen in the everyday language since there are words that come from the Arabs but have been adopted by Israelis. An example is IALA, which means something like "come on, come on!"

Crows in Tel Aviv

Something that called my attention a lot, is the crows around. I've told you that I love seagulls right? I love to see them flying over the water. Well, here, what you can see, are crows.

They are not a beautiful kind o birds, but in some way, they are managing their way to like me, and I'm starting to find them cool and cute.

We met at around 12 (mid-day) and after that, we bought something to eat and drank some wine that my friend had.

The Sea

Apparently, is pretty common for example to sit in the Port and drink something there on the floor, on the rocks, or wherever. So we did that!

The Mediterranean Sea here is amazing!

Israeli bars and the food of the day

After that, we walked to Old Jaffa again and sat in a bar to drink something else. The wine was too much for me, so I ordered a beer, and my friend continue drinking wine.

Israeli bars are full of people and they seem to drink a lot. I thought it was a very conservative country, but no... I could say it's almost the opposite. People like to party and there is a lot of open-minded mentalities everywhere.

For some reason, I only took pictures of the bathroom, which called a lot of my attention.

Live music and more of The Port

It was close to the sunset when we decided to go to the beach, where was live music. We listened to amazing songs and danced a lot! I danced with 2 guys from Israel and with a guy from Brasil.

After that, my friend went to someplace with her friends and I continue my way back to the hostel.

I enjoyed the city A LOT! This was something incredible to me.
