Hello, everybody!
I hope you are well or are trying to be well. Today we'll be travelling around the heavens of Çanakkale with you. Unfortunately, I think this post will be the last one in this community. I had a great time with you all, and I appreciate all your efforts. I hope you are well and that this decision makes you happier than you think.
Çanakkale attracts me more with its sea, history, people and tourists than nearly 50 other cities in Turkiye that I was able to visit. If I were alone and asked where I would like to spend the rest of my life, I would say Çanakkale without waiting even for a second.
It is probably the only city of my ongoing tour in Marmara that I have visited many times before. So I think it is quite appropriate to say that I know it like the back of my hand, except for the new museums, which I mentioned in the part six of my From All Over Turkiye series.
Now I want to talk about so many things that are actually on a single route, because these places cannot be mentioned on their own, both emotionally and mentally.
On a very dark morning, we set off early because we had to go from Edirne to Çanakkale. Since it was a slow start of the morning, everyone was a bit lazy.
Then our first stop was Seyit Çabuk, the statue of Seyit Onbaşı. He, like tens of thousands of soldiers in the War of Independence, shows a great example of heroism. He lifts a more than 270 kg cannon bullet on his back because the rails were broken, and that bullet is still one of the greatest examples proving that the Gallipoli Strait could not be crossed. I still get emotional even as I write, imagine how I was there. I could hardly stop myself from crying.
Imagine this. You are a simple soldier. You have a feeding problem, even the water you can drink is limited, let alone 2 bites of bread. You are weak. Seyit Onbaşı lifts a 270kg bullet while a person can have difficulty with 200kg even when he is in training. In the photo above, you can see Seyit Çabuk in the left corner. You can also find more information about Seyit Onbaşı on this page.
After leaving here with a heavy heart, feeling as if the weight of that bullet was on my back, we continued on our way. Sometimes everything here is very close to each other and sometimes very far away. Which is normal considering the situation of the war.
Now we are going to visit the martyrs' cemeteries. As you can appreciate, everywhere here is a grave. In fact, everywhere you step is painted with the blood of our soldiers. Walking around with the awareness of this makes the smell of blood in your nose even darker.
Since they could not recognise all the soldiers one by one, they wrote them on gravestones representing the provinces that were written during the counting and registration. Actually, this situation is quite painful. There is not even a grave for that mother, wife, child who was orphaned to visit. On the other hand, being able to see the homeland of the soldiers who came to the war, whether they were from today's Turkiye or not, makes me feel my national feelings.
Let me add that the name of this martyrdom is Şahindere Martyrdom.
Now it's time for one of my favourite places. The Gallipoli Martyrs' Monument.
The meaning of this monument is big and the monument itself is big. More than 40 metres long, it consists of four supporting columns and if you look at it from the right angle you can see the letter ‘m’ for Mehmetçik (means Martyr). Unfortunately, it did not come to my mind to take a photo of it.
But before that I would like to walk round a garden with you.
Unfortunately, this garden does not consist of roses, tulips or orchards. This garden is a garden of dead people created by greedy people.
There are at least 100 names written on each gravestone in this endless garden. These names are those who are old enough to be recorded. They range in age from a 15-year-old child to a 50-year-old man who could be a grandfather.
With over 200,000 deaths, I think this garden cannot and should not smell of anything but death. While the trees are trying to be a source of oxygen, these representative graves take your breath away.
There are so many things in this region to tell us about the conditions under which the Republic of Turkiye was created. All of this is very sad for me. My brothers, uncles and grandfathers are still lying there uncomfortably. Especially if they see the current situation.
Of course, after making the necessary explanations here and crying enough, we had to continue on our way.
Now there is the 57th Regiment Martyrdom. Each martyrdom has incredible stories of heroism. But I don't think I have the heart to tell you all of them. Or the ability to write.
This monument is dedicated to the Bombasırtı incident of the 57th Regiment. It took place on May 14, 1915 and took place in the trenches 8 metres apart on the enemy side. The soldiers were trying to protect their homeland with little ammunition. There are enemies coming from a specific area. I don't want to talk about this nation.
I think with this, I'm done for now. I can't do anything except to wish that these brutal wars will never be fought again.

Marmara'da devam eden turumun büyük ihtimalle daha önce bir çok defa ziyaret ettiğim tek şehri. Yani sanırım avcumun içi gibi biliyorum demek gayet uygundur yeni müzeler dışında ki bu müzeden de Türkiye'nin Dört Bir Yanından serimin altıncı bölümünde bahsetmiştim.
Şimdi sizinle aslında tek bir rota üzerinde olan çok fazla şeyden bahsetmek istiyorum. Çünkü bu yerler hem duygusal açıdan tek başlarına bahsedilemezler.
Çok karanlık bir sabahla, erkenden yola koyulduk çünkü Edirne'den Çanakkale'ye gitmemiz gerekiyordu. Yavaş bir sabah başlangıcı olduğundan dolayı herkes biraz tembellik yapıyordu.
Sonra ise ilk durağımız Seyit Çabuk, yani Seyit Onbaşı'nın heykeli oldu. Kendisi Kurtuluş Savaşı'nda, on binlerce asker gibi, harika bir kahramanlık örneği gösteriyor. 270 kilodan fazla olan bir top kurşununu, rayları bozulduğu için sırtlayarak yerine yerleştiriyor ve o mermi Çanakkale Boğazı'nın geçilemeyeceğini kanıtlayan en büyük örneklerden biri hâlâ. Yazarken bile duygulanıyorum hâlâ, düşünün ki orada nasıldım. Salya sümük ağlamamak için zor durdum.
Düşünsenize. Basit bir askersiniz. Beslenme sorunu yaşıyorsunuz, içebildiğiniz su bile kısıtlı bırakın 2 lokma ekmeği. Zayıfsınız. Bir insan antremanlıyken bile 200 kiloda zorlanabilecekken Seyit Onbaşı 270 kiloluk mermiyi kaldırıyor. Yukarıdaki fotoğrafta, sol köşede Seyit Çabuk'u görebilirsiniz. O annenin, eşin, öksüz kalmış çocuğun ziyaret edebileceği bir mezar dahi yok. Bir yandan da savaşa günümüz Türkiye'si olsun veya olmasın gelen askerlerin anavatanlarını görebilmek milli duygularımı depreştiriyor.
Bu şehitliğin isminin de Şahindere Şehitliği olduğunu ekleyeyim.
Şimdi ise sıra benim gözbebeklerimden birine geldi. Çanakkale Şehitler Abidesi.
Bu abidenin aslında anlamı büyük ve kendisi de büyük. 40 metreden daha uzun olan bu anıt dört destekleyici sütundan oluşuyor ve eğer doğru bir açı ile bakarsanız Mehmetçik'in "m" harfini görebilirsiniz. Ne yazık ki bunun fotoğrafını çekmek benim aklıma gelmedi.
Ama bundan önce sizinle bir bahçeden dolaşmak istiyorum.
Bu bahçe ne yazık ki güllerden, lalelerden ya da meyve bahçelerinden oluşmuyor. Bu bahçe aç gözlü insanların yarattığı bir ölü insanlar bahçesi.
Ucunun bucağının görünmediği bu bahçede her bir mezar taşında en az 100 isim yazıyor. Bu isimler ise kayda alıncak kadar yaşı olanlar. Aralarında 15 yaşındaki bir çocuktan tutun da 50 yaşındaki bir dede olabilecek bir erkeğe kadar bir yaş aralığı var.
200,000'den fazla verilen kayıpla bence bu bahçe ölümden başka bir şey kokamaz, kokmamalı. Ağaçlar ise oksijen kaynağı olmaya çalışırken bu temsili mezarlar insanın nefesini kesiyor.
Bu bölgede bize, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin ne şartlar altında kurulduğunu anlatacak çok fazla şey var. Bunların hepsi benim için çok üzücü. Orada benim kardeşlerim, amcalarım ve dedelerim hâlâ rahatsız bir şekilde yatıyorlar. Özellikle şimdiki durumu görüyorlarsa.
Burada gerekli anlatımları gerçekleştirip yeterince ağladıktan sonra yolumuza devam etmek zorunda kaldık elbette.
Şimdi ise 57. Alay Şehitliği var. Her şehitliğin inanılmaz kahramanlık hikâyeleri var. Ama bunların hepsini size anlatabilecek yürek yok bence. Ya da yazma kabileyeti.
Bu anıt 57, Alayın, Bombasırtı vakası adına yapılmış. 14 Mayıs 1915 tarihinde gerçekleşmiş bu olay, düşman tarafların 8 metre aralıklı siperlerinde gerçekleşiyor. Askerler az mühimmatla birlikte vatanlarını korumaya çalışıyor. O bölgede spesifik bir yerden gelen düşmanlar var. Bu milletten bahsetmek istemiyorum.
Sanırım bununla birlikte şimdilik benden bu kadar. Bir daha bu canice savaşların verilmemesini dilemek dışında elimden bir şey gelmiyor. Ah bir de;
