An architectural masterpiece since the Almoravid dynasty.

Hello friends, I wanted to share with you these photos that I took of the Sayeda Khadija Mosque in Mostaganem, Algeria. This mosque is an architectural masterpiece that is hundreds of years old.

This mosque was built in the 11th century AD during the rule of the Almoravids in North Africa, and after the French colonization of Algeria, this mosque was converted into a Catholic church in 1884, and when Algeria became an independent country in 1962, it was returned to a mosque again for Muslims to practice their religious rituals in it.

The view from the door of the building overlooking the city of Mazagran:

In recent years, the mosque was exposed to collapse due to its age, so the local authorities were forced to undertake a complete restoration of this building with the help of citizen donors. It took more than a year to restore it, as the restoration work began in 2020, so that this historical landmark was reopened in 2022.

Let's see the building from the inside:

A sign placed at the entrance of the building reads: The Mosque of Mrs. Khadija. It was established in the 11th Qur’an AD during the era of the Almoravid state. It was turned into a church by the French colonialists in 1884 AD and restored as a mosque after independence.

The sign is written in Arabic, and the meaning of the writing is as follows: Due to the type of materials used in the renovation of the building, it is forbidden to install air conditioners.

All photos were taken with an OPPO CPH2387 phone.
Thank you, regards.
