[EN] In the second half of the 1980s, when I was still eligible for summer camps, for four summers, I spent three weeks every year at the company summer camp in Sobieszów at the foot of the Chojnik mountain. Every morning leaving the cottage, I viewed the monumental castle ruins at the top of the mountain. Someone may ask why I wanted to go to the same place so many times? I think the main reason was that my mother's company only had this camping facility and had arranged holidays for the children of its employees there. What also mattered was the atmosphere of the place and the interesting people I met there, so I couldn't wait to spend three weeks in Karkonosze, even though I knew almost every rock and every clump of trees there.
[PL] W drugiej połowie lat osiemdziesiątych XX wieku, gdy jeszcze kwalifikowałem się na kolonie, przez cztery lata co roku trzy tygodnie spędzałem w zakładowym ośrodku kolonijnym w Sobieszowie u stóp góry Chojnik. Codziennie rano wychodząc z domku miałem widok na monumentalne ruiny zamku na szczycie góry. Ktoś może zadać pytanie dlaczego chciałem jeździć w to samo miejsce tyle razy? Myślę, że główną przyczyną było to, że zakład mojej mamy miał tylko ten ośrodek kolonijny i tam organizował wypoczynek dla dzieci swoich pracowników. Liczyła się również atmosfera tego miejsca i ciekawi ludzie, których tam poznałem, dlatego nie mogłem doczekać się trzech tygodni w Karkonoszach mimo tego, że znałem tam prawie każdy kamień i każdą kępkę drzew.

[EN] The camp package at Chojnik would not have been complete without climbing the mountain and visiting the castle, with an obligatory group photograph under the pillory in the castle courtyard. Usually, there were two such visits in a camp, at the beginning and the end of the camp, and once there was also a night hike up to the castle in search of Kunegunda.
[PL] W programie wypoczynku pod Chojnikiem nie mogło zabraknąć wejścia na górę i zwiedzania zamku z obowiązkową fotografią grupową pod pręgierzem na dziedzińcu zamku. Zwykle w turnusie takie wejścia były dwa, na początku i na końcu turnusu, raz zdarzyło się też nocne wejście na górę pod zamek w poszukiwaniu Kunegundy.
[EN] All of us are familiar with the legend of Princess Kunegunda, who laid down the condition that she would become the wife of the knight who would ride around the castle walls in full armour on horseback. Because of the steep mountain slopes on the south side, this task was almost impossible, but time and time again, some daredevil tried his luck and fell into the abyss. Finally, a knight made it around the castle, and his horse stayed on the steep path. The princess rushed to greet him. However, he did not move and said that he did not want to be bound with Kunegunda because so many innocent people had died because of her cruel idea. Then he left, and the princess, unable to bear the humiliation, threw herself into the mountain abyss. And it is Kunegunda's ghost that haunts the castle ruins.
[PL] Każdy z nas bardzo dobrze znał legendę o księżniczce Kunegundzie, która śmiałkom starającym się o jej rękę stawiała warunek, że zostanie żoną tego rycerza, który w pełnej zbroi na koniu objedzie wokół murów zamkowych. Z racji stromych zboczy gór od strony południowej zadanie to było niemalże niewykonalne, jednak raz za razem jakiś śmiałek próbował swoich sił i spadał z wierzchowcem w przepaść. Aż w końcu trafił się taki rycerz, który objechał zamek, a jego koń utrzymał się na urwistym szlaku. Księżniczka pospieszyła mu na powitanie. Ten jednak ani drgnął i odrzekł, iż nie chce wiązać się z Kunegundą, gdyż przez jej okrutny pomysł zginęło tylu niewinnych ludzi. Następnie odjechał, a księżniczka, nie mogąc znieść upokorzenia rzuciła się w górską przepaść. I właśnie duch Kunegundy nawiedza ruiny zamku.
[EN] A few years ago, I returned to Jelenia Góra with my family, and of course, the sightseeing agenda include climbing the mountain and the ruins of Chojnik castle. We started from the centre of Sobieszów, where two trails (red and black) lead to the top. The first surprise for me was that we had to pay a fee to enter the Karkonosze National Park, as the Chojnik summit is literally on the park's border. In the 1980s, there were no such fees.
[PL] *Kilka lat temu wróciłem do Jeleniej Góry z rodziną, oczywiście w programie zwiedzania nie mogło zabraknąć wejścia na górę i ruiny zamku Chojnik. Ruszyliśmy z centrum Sobieszowa, gdzie początek mają dwa szlaki (czerwony i czarny) prowadzące na szczyt. Pierwszym zaskoczeniem była konieczność uiszczenia opłaty za wejście do Karkonoskiego Parku Narodowego, szczyt Chojnik jest dosłownie na granicy tego parku. W latach osiemdziesiątych takich opłat nie było. *
[EN] We gave up climbing Zbojeckie Skały on the black trail (which was an obligatory attraction in my youth) and we went to the top on a slightly longer red trail. On the summit, in front of the entrance to the castle, there is a ticket office again, this time we buy entrance tickets. They are not large amounts, but couldn't they somehow be combined into one fee?
[PL] Odpuściliśmy sobie wspinaczkę po Zbójeckich Skałach na czarnym szlaku (co było obowiązkową atrakcją w młodości) i na szczyt weszliśmy nieco dłuższym czerwonym szlakiem. Na szczycie przed wejściem do zamku znów kasa biletowa, tym razem kupujemy bilety wstępu. Nie są to duże kwoty, ale czy nie można by jakoś połączyć w jedną opłatę?
[EN] The castle dates back to the second half of the 14th century and for centuries it was owned by the Schaffgotsch family, until the fateful day of 31 August 1675 when the castle was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm. As a result of the fire, the top of the tower and a large part of the upper castle burned down. Unfortunately, nobody decided to rebuild the ruins and for years the castle fell into ruin. It was only in the 19th century that spa guests from the nearby town of Cieplice rediscovered the castle and it became a tourist attraction.
[PL] Zamek pochodzi z drugiej połowy XIV wieku i przez wieki był własnością rodziny Schaffgotschów, aż do feralnego dnia 31 sierpnia 1675 roku, kiedy to podczas burzy w zamek trafił piorun. W wyniku pożaru spłonęło zwieńczenie wieży i duża cześć zamku górnego. Niestety nikt nie zdecydował się na odbudowę zgliszcz i przez lata zamek popadł w ruinę. Dopiero w XIX wieku kuracjusze z pobliskich Cieplic odkryli ten zamek na nowo i stał się on atrakcją turystyczną.
[EN] It is worth climbing the castle tower, from where you can admire the vast panorama of the Jeleniogórska Valley.
[PL] Warto wdrapać się na zamkową wieżę, skąd można podziwiać rozległą panoramę kotliny jeleniogórskiej.
Wieża widokowa "Grzybek" - Wzgórze Krzywoustego
[EN] And for those who don't like hiking in the mountains, but love admiring them from afar, I suggest going back to Jelenia Góra, where not far from the town centre, on Krzywousty Hill, a viewing tower called "Grzybek" has been erected. The tower is located among trees and greenery on a small hill, no one guards the entrance, and from a height of 22 metres, you can admire the panorama of the city and the surrounding mountains free of charge.
[PL] A dla tych co nie lubią łazić po górach, ale uwielbiają podziwiać je z daleka proponuję wrócić do Jeleniej Góry, gdzie niedaleko centrum miasta na Wzgórzu Krzywoustego wzniesiono wieżę widokową „Grzybek”. Wieża znajduje się wśród drzew i zieleni na niewielkim wzgórzu, nikt nie pilnuje wstępu, bez żadnych opłat można z wysokości 22 metrów podziwiać panoramę miasta i okolicznych gór.

Okolica jest bardzo klimatyczna.
Szczególnie gdy wchodzi się od tyłu, szlakiem dla rycerzy.. po prostu coś pięknego , nie mogliśmy przestać się zachwycać ;)
