Mi hija, Amarú, tenía muchas ganas de subir en el teleférico al Waraira Repano, la hermosa montaña que separa a Caracas del mar caribe. Así que nos dimos a la tarea de llegar a la estación del Teleférico. Yo había estado huyendo de esta tarea, porque la última vez que subí (ahora penúltima) había mucha brisa y los funiculares se columpiaban en al gran vacío que se forma en el llamado Cañón del Diablo de mi hermosa montaña, sufrí mucho vértigo y juré no volver a subir jamás en el teleférico.
Arriba hicimos primero el recorrido de reconocimiento, esto fue caminar desde la llegada de los funiculares, hasta las inmediaciones del Hotel Humboldt, a donde no logramos entrar porque ahora es un casino privado, y para poder acceder hay que pagar 15 dólares solamente por entrar a ver, no estuvimos de acuerdo y nos devolvimos, pensando en disfrutar las otras opciones de entretenimiento que ofrece la cumbre del Waraira (me gusta más su nombre indígena.
Comimos una parrilla surtida, y ninguna de las dos quiso comer la morcilla, así que se la regalamos a un perrito que estaba por las inmediaciones.
Nos topamos con un mimo que hacía de Charlot, uno de los personajes preferidos de Amarú, así que no quisimos pasar de largo y nos detuvimos a reírnos junto a él.
Para mi sorpresa hay un local de Chocolate Venezuela, así que paramos a comprar chocolate caliente, el mejor del mundo y combatir un poco ese frío helado de Galipán. Galipán es el pueblo agricultor y artesano que hace vida en esa montaña.
Logramos ver el Picacho, una de las salientes vertiginosas de la montaña, un lugar que para llegar hay que atravesar una ruta con dos acantilados a os lados, no se muy peligroso desde lejos, pero al caminar por allí no te puedes descuidar, pues puedes caer.
Siempre lo visitaba junto a mi amigo del alma, mi hermano Lenín Rangel, así que estuve amenizando nuestro recorrido contando nuestras aventuras de montañistas expertos a mi hija y ella disfrutando un montón.
Conocimos a unos señores que habían hecho el mismo recorrido, pero a pie, desde la ciudad hasta arriba, donde nos encontramos, y debo decir que lo prefiero mil veces a subir en el teleférico, pues aunque suene a queja, es horrible la sensación de vacío y vértigo que se siente en la soledad del funicular.
Y para quien no está acostumbrada a ver el horizonte sin la majestuosa montaña atravesando la vista es muy raro estar a cielo abierto, sin nada en medio que entorpezca la vista.
My daughter, Amarú, really wanted to go up the cable car to Waraira Repano, the beautiful mountain that separates Caracas from the Caribbean Sea. So we set about the task of getting to the cable car station. I had been running away from this task, because the last time I went up (now penultimate) there was a lot of breeze and the funiculars were swinging in the great emptiness that forms in the so-called Devil's Canyon of my beautiful mountain, I suffered a lot of vertigo and swore never to go up again in the cable car.
At the top we first did the reconnaissance tour, this was walking from the arrival of the funiculars, to the vicinity of the Humboldt Hotel, where we could not enter because it is now a private casino, and to access you have to pay $ 15 just to enter to see, we did not agree and we turned back, thinking of enjoying the other entertainment options offered by the summit of Waraira (I like its indigenous name better).
We ate an assorted grill, and neither of us wanted to eat the blood sausage, so we gave it to a little dog that was nearby.
We ran into a mime playing Charlot, one of Amarú's favorite characters, so we didn't want to pass him by and stopped to laugh with him.
To my surprise there is a Chocolate Venezuela shop, so we stopped to buy some hot chocolate, the best in the world, and combat a little of that cold Galipán ice cream. Galipán is the farming and artisan village that makes life in that mountain.
We managed to see the Picacho, one of the vertiginous ledges of the mountain, a place that to get there you have to cross a road with two cliffs on both sides, not very dangerous from afar, but when walking there you can not be careless, because you can fall.
I always visited it with my soul friend, my brother Lenin Rangel, so I was entertaining our tour telling our adventures of expert mountaineers to my daughter and she enjoyed a lot.
We met some gentlemen who had done the same route, but on foot, from the city to the top, where we met, and I must say that I prefer it a thousand times to going up in the cable car, because although it sounds like a complaint, it is horrible the feeling of emptiness and vertigo that you feel in the loneliness of the funicular.
And for those who are not used to seeing the horizon without the majestic mountain crossing the view, it is very strange to be in the open sky, with nothing in between to obstruct the view.
