Aberdour Old Pier And Harbour -East Fife Scotland

Greetings Travelers

Today I want to show you guys part of a photographic little town on the east coast of Scotland called Aberdour.

This area is great for spending the day wandering around and talking photographs. The area has an award winning beach called Silver Sands which is always popular with tourists when the weather is good.

Yesterday I was wandering around the harbour area and snapped these shots.

A short walk along from the harbour there is an old pier that is now in a state of disrepair.

To get there we gotta walk over these stepping stones and across the harbour...

This pier has been well weather over many decades. I am currently 37 years old and I remember this pier being in this condition even when I was a small kid in the late 80s and early 90s.

The old pier appears on lists of the best places in Fife to photograph. I guess its pretty rare to find something like this.

Looking out from the pier of in the distance we can see Inchcolm Island which has an Abbey and Priory which were built between 1147 and 1235.Inchcolm Island has history dating all the way back to Roman times and it is thought that the Irish missionary St Columba spent time on it in the 6th century.

I will do a full post on Inchcolm abbey as soon as the covid regulations allow me to travel there. It is a magical little island with a lot of history to cover.

I mention the Island here as the old pier used to be a ferry port over to it. Nowadays to reach Inchcolm Island I need to get a ferry from South Queensferry which is on the otherside of the Tay bridge maybe a further 20 mins drive from this spot.

The old pier is right next to The Forth View hotel which is a lovely spot to sit and have lunch. They have stunning views over the Tay Estuary. I plan to do a review of the hotels food soon. Hopefully I will get a chance to get some sunset photos from this area some day.

Here are a few random shots I took while walking to the pier...
