Hello friends of this wonderful community @worldmappin, I continue to discover new places and add adventures to my life and that of my dear husband @manros11.
A few weeks ago, we went to Rancagua to run an errand. We are in the process of applying for Chilean identity cards and have had several setbacks, but that's another story.
Rancagua is a city in central Chile, south of Santiago. There you will find the Plaza de los Héroes, which commemorates the Chileans who fought in the Battle of Rancagua during the independence era.
Today I want to talk to you about this particular square where my husband and I sat for a while enjoying the atmosphere and the music that could be heard somewhere. This square is very beautiful and has a bronze equestrian statue of General Bernardo O'Higgins with his sword raised, symbolising his leadership during the battle. This monument was inaugurated in 1914 to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Rancagua and was recently restored. This restoration included cleaning the marble and repairing the bronze reliefs and plaques. I had the opportunity to see it before and after its restoration, and it really is very beautiful now.
Two streets intersect at this square, forming the Holy Cross, and each street points towards the four cardinal points (east, west, north and south).
On 1 and 2 October 1814, the Battle of Rancagua, also known as the Disaster of Rancagua, took place in this square.
In this square, there is a fountain, many benches, trees, and flowers, and there are small kiosks where they sell coffee and snacks. One block away is the Church of La Merced, which served as a refuge for patriots during the Battle of Rancagua and was declared a historical monument in 1954 due to its historical and heritage importance. The square is surrounded by important buildings, including the O'Higgins Regional Presidential Delegation, the former Cachapoal governor's office, the cathedral, the headquarters of the illustrious Municipality of Rancagua, and the Independencia and Estado pedestrian walkways.
Where the statue stands, there used to be a water fountain that supplied water to the town and the prison. It was removed in 1912 and placed in the Alameda near the regional hospital, and was later destroyed by vandals.
Opposite the Plaza de los Héroes, you can admire the Cathedral or Parish Church of El Rosario de Rancagua in the heart of the historic centre.
I confess that I took the photos that day without thinking, but as I have learned more about its history and everything surrounding it, on my next visit to Rancagua I will take a closer look at the church and everything surrounding this beautiful square.

Hola amigos de esta hermosa comunidad de @worldmappin, sigo conociendo y sumando aventuras a mi vida y la de mi querido esposo @manros11.
Hace unas semanas fuimos a Rancagua a hacer una diligencia,es que estamos tramitando la cédula chilena y hemos tenido varios inconvenientes pero esa es otra historia.
Rancagua es una ciudad central de Chile que esta al sur de Santiago,ahí se encuentra la plaza de los héroes que conmemora a los chilenos que lucharon en la Batalla de Rancagua durante la época de independencia.
Hoy les quiero hablar sobre esta plaza en particular donde mi esposo y yo estuvimos un rato sentados disfrutando del ambiente y de la música que se escuchaba en algun lugar, esta plaza es muy hermosa tiene una estatua ecuestre de Bronce del General Bernardo O'Higgins con la espada en alto simbolizando su liderazgo durante la batalla. Este monumento fue inaugurado en 1914 para conmemorar el centenario de la batalla de Rancagua y fue restaurada hace poco, esta restauración incluyo la limpieza del marmol, la reparación de los relieves y placas de Bronce, yo tuve oportunidad de verla antes de su restauración y después de su restauración y de verdad quedó muy hermosa.
En esta plaza cruzan dos calles y forman la Santa Cruz y cada calle apunta hacia los cuatro puntos cardinales(este,oeste,norte y sur)
En esta plaza el 1 y 2 de octubre de 1814 se llevo a cabo la Batalla de Rancagua que también es conocida como el Desastre de Rancagua.
En esta plaza hay una fuente,muchos bancos, arboles y flores,hay pequeños kioscos donde venden café y cosas para merendar, a una cuadra está la iglesia de la Merced que sirvió de refugio para los patriotas durante la batalla de Rancagua y fue declarada monumento histórico en 1954 debido a su importancia histórica y patrimonial,la plaza esta rodeada por importantes edificios,la Delegación Presidencial Regional de O'Higgins, la ex gobernación de Cachapoal,la Catedral y la cede central de la ilustre Municipalidad de Rancagua y los paseos peatonales Independencia y Estado.
Donde esta la estatua estaba una pila de agua que surtía a la población y a la cárcel que fue retirada en 1912 y puesta en la Alameda a la altura del hospital regional y posteriormente fue destruida por actos vandálicos
Frente a la plaza los Héroes se puede admirar la Iglesia Catedral o Parroquia el Rosario de Rancagua en pleno casco histórico.
Les confieso que las fotos que tome ese día las tome sin pensar pero a medida que e ido conociendo su historia y todo lo que la rodea en mi próxima visita a Rancagua vere más de cerca la iglesia y todo lo que rodea esta hermosa plaza.
