After lunch in Paicol, we set off for one of Huila's most striking destinations: the Hand of the Giant Mountain. The journey takes approximately two hours along the road to Popayán. At one point along the route, you have to take a left turn, where a dirt road begins, which later becomes an unpaved road. You can go up a good part of the way by motorcycle or car, but there comes a point where only 4x4 trucks can continue, as the terrain is quite steep and rocky.
The final ascent by vehicle takes between 10 and 15 minutes, although you can also walk, which takes about an hour.
Upon arrival, we find a place full of tourists, all waiting their turn to take the famous photo in the giant's hand, a structure built on the edge of the mountain that offers a breathtaking view of the Huila landscape. Further down, there is another hand decorated with the colors of Colombia, just as beautiful and perfect for taking patriotic photos with the natural backdrop.
I then continued the tour to other viewpoints located on the other side of the mountain. Each one has its own theme, some even with a romantic touch, ideal for taking photos as a couple. In my case, I preferred to capture the beauty of the surroundings: the mountains, the clear sky, and the tranquility of the place.
Afterwards, my friends and I went to enjoy the “Lisadero de Colores,” a kind of natural slide that is quite an experience. Admission costs about $3.50, and if you pay a little extra, they record a video with a drone. Although the photo they took of me was a little blurry, the moment was too much fun for that to matter.
When we were done, we went down to the main restaurant, where I tried a local craft beer, which was very good indeed. The afternoon ended with a beautiful sunset, while a local artist sang and marshmallows were handed out to enjoy around the fire. It was a warm, cheerful atmosphere full of good energy.
Around 7 p.m., we began the descent again in the trucks. When we reached the bottom, we started our motorcycles and returned to the village, where we had dinner and a small get-together. The night ended with a heavy drizzle that forced us to get a little wet before reaching the hotel, but that was also part of the adventure.
And so ended this magical day at the Giant's Hand Mountain.
The next day, the most anticipated destination of the trip awaited us, but that's another story!

Después de almorzar en Paicol, emprendimos camino hacia uno de los destinos más llamativos del Huila: la Montaña de la Mano del Gigante. El trayecto dura aproximadamente dos horas por la vía que conduce a Popayán. En un punto del recorrido hay que tomar un desvío a mano izquierda, por donde comienza una carretera con placa huella que más adelante se convierte en una vía destapada. Se puede subir un buen tramo en moto o carro, pero llega un punto donde solo las camionetas 4x4 logran continuar, ya que el terreno es bastante empinado y rocoso.
El ascenso final en vehículo dura entre 10 y 15 minutos, aunque también se puede hacer caminando, lo cual toma cerca de una hora de subida.
Al llegar, nos encontramos con un sitio lleno de turistas, todos esperando su turno para tomarse la famosa foto en la mano del gigante, una estructura construida al borde de la montaña que ofrece una vista impresionante del paisaje huilense. Más abajo hay otra mano decorada con los colores de Colombia, igual de bonita y perfecta para tomarse fotos patrióticas con el fondo natural.
Luego continué el recorrido hacia otros miradores ubicados al otro lado de la montaña. Cada uno tiene su propia temática, algunos incluso con un toque romántico, ideales para tomarse fotos en pareja. En mi caso, preferí capturar la belleza del entorno: las montañas, el cielo despejado y la tranquilidad del lugar.
Después, junto a mis amigos, nos fuimos a disfrutar del “Lisadero de Colores”, una especie de tobogán natural que es toda una experiencia. La entrada cuesta unos 3.5 dólares, y si pagas un poco más te graban un video con dron. Aunque la foto que me tomaron quedó algo borrosa, el momento fue demasiado divertido para que eso importara.
Al finalizar, bajamos hasta el restaurante principal, donde probé una cerveza artesanal de la región, muy buena por cierto. La tarde cerró con una hermosa puesta de sol, mientras una artista local cantaba y repartían masmelos para disfrutar alrededor del fuego. Fue un ambiente cálido, alegre y lleno de buena energía.
Cerca de las 7 de la noche emprendimos el descenso nuevamente en las camionetas. Al llegar abajo encendimos nuestras motocicletas y regresamos al pueblo, donde cenamos y tuvimos una pequeña integración. La noche terminó con una fuerte llovizna que nos obligó a mojarnos un poco antes de llegar al hotel, pero eso también hizo parte de la aventura.
Y así concluyó esta jornada mágica en la Montaña de la Mano del Gigante.
El siguiente día nos esperaba el destino más esperado del viaje; pero ¡esa! Es otra historia.
