Good evening, Hivers friends. Today I bring you this new story about my trip to the Tatacoa Desert.
After a short get-together in Paicol, we went to rest at the hotels. The next day, at 9 a.m., we were ready: breakfasted, with the motorcycles prepared and our luggage secured to continue the journey.
The day started with some rain, but it soon cleared up. Just as we arrived at the viewpoint overlooking the Magdalena River, the drizzle stopped and the sun began to peek through the clouds. From there, we could see a spectacular landscape: the thick jungle, the green-covered mountains, and the imposing river that calmly winds its way between them. We took the opportunity to take a few pictures and enjoy the moment before continuing on our way.
With the pavement now dry, we were able to increase our speed and ride more comfortably until we reached Neiva, a large city full of life, history, and culture.
Neiva is known for its joy and for being the birthplace of the Sanjuanero Huilense, the traditional dance that represents the identity of Huila. This rhythm, full of elegance and charm, is performed with colorful costumes, hats, and scarves that dance to the beat of the typical music of the interior of the country. In addition, on the banks of the Magdalena River is the imposing Monument to La Gaitana, a sculpture that honors the brave indigenous leader who fought against Spanish colonization.
In Neiva, we took a short break to rest, eat something, and, of course, take some photos. From there, you can see the river up close and spend some time with the friendly locals, who are always happy to chat and recommend the best places to visit.
Our journey continued to Villavieja, a charming town in the department of Huila, where the entrance to the Tatacoa Desert is located. Before checking into the hotel, around 1 p.m., we took the opportunity to find something for lunch. We were lucky to arrive just as the town was celebrating its patron saint festival, which filled the atmosphere with music, joy, and traditional food everywhere.
There was plenty to choose from: suckling pig, fried foods, traditional dishes, and tamales. Due to time constraints, I opted for a delicious tamale, which did not disappoint at all. After eating, we made a brief stop at the main church, where we took a photo, and at the town sign, although the place was quite crowded. So I decided to come back the next day to capture the image more calmly.
At around 2:30 p.m., with everything ready, we set off again for the Tatacoa Desert. But that's another story.

Buenas noches amigos hivers, hoy les traigo esta nueva historia sobre mi viaje al desierto de la tatacoa.
Después de una pequeña integración en Paicol, nos fuimos a descansar a los hoteles. Al día siguiente, a las 9 de la mañana, ya estábamos listos: desayunados, con las motos preparadas y el equipaje asegurado para continuar el recorrido.
El día comenzó con algo de lluvia, pero el agua pronto se disipó. Justo cuando llegamos al mirador que da al río Magdalena, dejó de lloviznar y el sol comenzó a asomarse entre las nubes. Desde allí pudimos contemplar un paisaje espectacular: la selva espesa, las montañas cubiertas de verde y el imponente río que serpentea con calma entre ellas. Aprovechamos para tomar unas cuantas fotografías y disfrutar del momento antes de continuar el camino.
Con el pavimento ya seco, pudimos aumentar la velocidad y avanzar con más comodidad hasta llegar a Neiva, una gran ciudad llena de vida, historia y cultura.
Neiva es reconocida por su alegría y por ser la cuna del Sanjuanero Huilense, el baile tradicional que representa la identidad del Huila. Este ritmo, lleno de elegancia y coquetería, es interpretado con trajes coloridos, sombreros y pañuelos que danzan al compás de la música típica del interior del país. Además, a orillas del río Magdalena se encuentra el imponente Monumento a La Gaitana, una escultura que honra a la valiente líder indígena que luchó contra la colonización española.
En Neiva hicimos una breve pausa para descansar, comer algo y, por supuesto, tomar algunas fotos. Desde allí se puede apreciar muy de cerca el río y compartir un rato con los amables lugareños, siempre dispuestos a conversar y a recomendar los mejores lugares para visitar.
Nuestro recorrido continuó hasta Villavieja, un encantador municipio del departamento del Huila, donde se encuentra la entrada al Desierto de la Tatacoa. Antes de recibir el hotel, ya cerca de la 1 de la tarde, aprovechamos para buscar algo de almuerzo. Tuvimos la suerte de llegar justo cuando el pueblo estaba en fiestas patronales, lo que llenaba el ambiente de música, alegría y comida típica por todos lados.
Había mucho para escoger: lechona, fritos, platos típicos y tamales. Por cuestión de tiempo, opté por un delicioso tamal, el cual no decepcionó en absoluto. Luego de comer, hicimos una breve parada en la iglesia principal, donde nos tomamos una foto, y en el letrero del municipio aunque el sitio estaba bastante lleno. Así que decidí volver al día siguiente para capturar la imagen con más calma.
A eso de las 2:30 p.m., ya con todo listo, emprendimos nuevamente la marcha hacia el Desierto de la Tatacoa. Pero ¡esa! es otra historia.
