Yes, I've been to Dartmoor. I lived in Okehampton for a while about 30 years ago. I only lived in Cornwall for 3 years but had many walks into the wilderness, and loved it! I miss the feeling of remoteness and exposure you get from walking out there.

There are some really great walks on that part of the moor and the drive up from Newton Abbot isn’t bad. You need to pick your days its bleak when the weather turns though.
Yes, you're not kidding about the weather up there.
But when it fine there's no better place to be.
