Last Saturday I went to Milan because a friend graduated in engineering at the “Politecnico di Milano”. I think it is a beautiful city and I’m always very happy to go there, so we thought we would take accommodation and stay on Sunday too.
The discussion of my friend's thesis was held at distance, from the PC, as the new anti-coronavirus regulations provide that only close relatives can enter the Aula Magna. But at the exit, after the proclamation, we all welcomed him with great joy and uncorked a few bottles of wine!
After a few jokes and games with friends, we headed to the restaurant, where a super Italian dinner was waiting for us. We ate very well, but the thing that impressed me most is certainly the setting of the tables, in full autumn style: pumpkins, dried fruit, mandarins, flowers, ...
Autumn is my favorite season and I think it can make any city wonderful, even Milan with its thousand buildings and the hectic lifestyle of a metropolis.
Autumn is a season that brings with it many reflections. First of all, it's a season of new beginnings, as schools and universities reopen in October. But it is also a time when you are in the balance between the flaming memory of the sand under your feet in August and the first Christmas lights in the squares. A magical moment!
We must also consider that this autumn will be very special, as we are in full Coronavirus pandemic and there are a thousand doubts about the future. Will there be another lockdown? Will pharmaceutical research be able to find a safe and effective vaccine? How long should we stay with the masks on? When will we be able to hug freely again?
I wish my thoughts, just like the leaves that fall from trees do in autumn, could fall and flutter away.
A girl from our group, who lives in Naples, had never been to Milan and we took the opportunity to introduce her to the city for the first time. It was a very nice idea, because in these days, in a street not far from where we were for the party, a small craft fair was being held and on Sunday we headed there to do some shopping.
If you are going to Milan for the first time, the obligatory stop is certainly the Duomo, the symbol of the city and a wonderful example of Gothic architecture, my favorite style.
It is the largest Gothic church in the world and the fifth largest among Christian churches. In addition, it is the building that has the most statues in the world, think that there are 3200!
My favorite part of the Milan Cathedral complex are certainly the terraces, where you can walk among the spiers and have a wonderful view of the city.
In Milan there are many ethnic restaurants and of all my favorite is certainly the Indian. I like the fact that spices are used, which I love, and that there is a large choice of vegetarian dishes. Shortly before taking the train, therefore, we headed to an Indian restaurant to have our last dinner in this beautiful city, hoping to be able to return soon again.
I leave you with the last photo of the short trip to Milan: a cat sleeping in the warmth of a newly lit fireplace in a small 1950s house. Here in Northern Italy, in fact, autumn has brought with it a significant drop in temperatures and it is necessary to prepare for the coldest period of the year with a good cup of hot chocolate in front of the fireplace. I can't wait for this moment to come!

Ciao a tutti,
Lo scorso sabato sono andata a Milano perché un amico si è laureato in ingegneria presso il Politecnico di Milano. Penso che sia una bellissima città e sono sempre molto felice di andarci, quindi abbiamo pensato di prendere un alloggio e rimanere anche la domenica.
La discussione della tesi del mio amico si è tenuta in maniera telematica, in quanto le nuove normative anti-coronavirus prevedono che possano entrare nell’Aula Magna solamente i parenti più stretti. Ma all’uscita, dopo la proclamazione, l’abbiamo accolto tutti con molta gioia e abbiamo stappato qualche bottiglia di vino!
Dopo qualche scherzo e gioco in compagnia, ci siamo diretti verso il ristorante, dove ci aspettava una super cena all’italiana. Abbiamo mangiato davvero molto bene, ma la cosa che mi è rimasta più impressa è sicuramente l’allestimento delle tavole, in pieno stile autunnale: zucche, frutta secca, mandarini, fiori, …
L’autunno è la mia stagione preferita e penso che riesca a rendere meravigliosa qualsiasi città, persino Milano con i suoi mille palazzi e il tenore di vita frenetico da metropoli. L’autunno è una stagione che porta con sé numerose riflessioni. Innanzitutto, è una stagione di nuovi inizi, dato che a ottobre riaprono le scuole e le università. Ma è anche un periodo in cui si è in bilico tra il ricordo fiammante della sabbia sotto i piedi in agosto e le prime luci di Natale tra le piazze. Un momento magico!
Dobbiamo anche considerare che questo autunno sarà molto particolare, in quanto siamo in piena pandemia da Coronavirus e ci sono mille dubbi sul futuro. Ci sarà un altro lockdown? Riuscirà la ricerca farmaceutica a trovare un vaccino sicuro ed efficace? Per quanto tempo dovremmo rimanere con le mascherine indossate? Quando si tornerà a poter riabbracciarsi liberamente?
Mi piacerebbe che i miei pensieri, proprio come fanno le foglie che cadono dagli alberi in autunno, potessero cadere e svolazzare via.
Una ragazza del nostro gruppo, che vive a Napoli, non era mai stata a Milano e abbiamo approfittato per farle conoscere la città per la prima volta. È stata un’idea molto apprezzata, in quanto proprio in questi giorni, in un quartiere poco lontano da dove eravamo per la festa, si teneva una piccola fiera dell’artigianato e domenica ci siamo diretti lì per fare qualche acquisto.
Se si va a Milano per la prima volta, la tappa obbligata è di certo il Duomo, simbolo della città e meraviglioso esempio di architettura gotica, il mio stile preferito.
Si tratta della chiesa gotica più grande del mondo e la quinta per grandezza tra le chiese cristiane. Inoltre, è l’edificio che presenta più statue al mondo, pensate che ce ne sono 3200!
La mia parte preferita del complesso del Duomo di Milano sono di certo le terrazze, dove è possibile camminare immersi tra le guglie e avere una veduta meravigliosa della città.
A Milano si trovano numerosissimi ristoranti etnici e tra tutti il mio preferito è di certo l’indiano. Mi piace il fatto che vengano utilizzate le spezie, che io adoro, e che ci sia una vasta scelta di piatti vegetariani. Poco prima di prendere il treno, quindi, ci siamo diretti in un ristorante indiano per fare l’ultima cena in questa bellissima città, sperando di poter tornarci presto di nuovo.
Vi lascio con l’ultima foto della breve gita a Milano: un gatto che dorme al tepore di un caminetto appena acceso in una piccola casa anni ‘50. Qui al Nord Italia, infatti, l’autunno ha portato con sé un importante abbassamento delle temperature ed è necessario prepararsi per il periodo più freddo dell’anno con una buona tazza di cioccolata calda davanti al caminetto. Non vedo l’ora!
