Bangkok BTS quicky

A while ago when we could travel, I would take a trip Bangkok a couple of times a year to see friends. Bangkok is an amazing place so very different from the Philippines, things just work. OK the city is pretty much gridlocked a lot of the time so taxis and Tuk Tuks can take ages. But they also have cheap, clean, fast and safe public transport both the above and below ground with the BTS and Metro.BTSmap_LI 2.jpg The BTS covers most of the city with the network being extending all the time on both sides of the river and there are connecting stations with the airport link and Metro system..

The BTS is my favourite and easy to find as all the station entrances are marked with this logo at street level.

Many of the skyways also have pedestrian walkways under them so a great way to get around and keep dry if it's raining. The trains run frequently and are really a very cheap way to get around Bangkok as the rides only cost a few baht. They are very busy at peak times so don’t expect to get a seat all the time but its not an issue as here are plenty if straps or poles to hold or hang off. If it is very busy the Thai people are always polite and ready to give up their seat to the old and infirm, so it's best to follow their example. Eating and drinking is prohibited on the BTS network so don't try eating your lunch on the station, as a result they seem to keep the trains and stations seem to be much cleaner with a less rubbish than the London underground or NY metro.

While most of the trains are in the Thai national colours of blue, red and white. BTS 2.jpg

Many of the trains are also wrapped in adverts with the current movies, phone company's, airlines or high end shops so there is always something interesting to look at if you are waiting. BTS.jpg
Getting the right train is easy as all the stations have moving message boards with the next arrivals, with most of carriages also have illuminated route maps above the door so it's easy to tell which station is coming up next which is a great idea.

Using the system is very easy, you can get single journey tickets at the automatic machines or day and multiple journey cards at any of the station ticket offices, but you do need your passport to purchase one of the multiple journey tickets.

These are great if your staying for a few days as you load them up with a few baht and just swipe them at the automatic barrier entering and leaving the station and the cost of you journey is deducted off the card.

So fellow Hivers if your ever in Bangkok enjoy your rides on the BTS, I know I will next time I visit friends there.

defo going as soon as this shit blows over

It's a pretty efficient system to get around especially the traffic is notoriously bad in Bangkok.

By the way, I notice you're using some images from the internet, it's best to add the source so you will not be reprimanded for plagarism as many people do that on Hive. The last thing you want is your accord by labelled as abuse 😉

Thanks for the tip
