Nature's Devastation: When Awe-Full Turns Awful

in Pinmapplelast year

There is nothing quite like living in the mountains of California. The hushed sounds of stillness, and the perfection of peace is displayed in the most picturesque setting, nestled in our forest, 4500 feet closer to heaven.

The cost of living so close to untamed nature comes with consequences, and sometimes they bring destruction so violent and disruptive that you do find yourself questioning your choice of locale.

This past year, living in the Sierra Nevada has brought evacuations from wildfires that drove us from our homes for two weeks...

Floods that ripped our roads apart from underneath

Snow that piled on top of us like never before, and then MORE rain pelted that melted all that snow in raging floods again.

But when all is said and done, and the skies finally pour out all their wrath, we get the most glorious skies that promise that everything can be made new again!

Here below, we see the beautiful mountains looming behind gorgeous puffy clouds... but what lies behind all that fluffiness? A mystery of great proportions!

From the valley floor and looking between the rows of a grove, you can see how majestic everything looks! It seems far enough away, but let me show you what it can do from even that distance!!

The mountain snow melting brings new waterfalls all around which are beautiful, but when they come close to civilization, havoc ensues!

The rivers you see here were not here before! Just a dry "valley" with nothing but drought all around! But when thousands of tons of snow melts all at once, rushed by rain? New rivers gush and flood!

And what it does to roads? Well, in a word... CLOSED! Lots of repairs need to happen, and soon!

But even with all the destruction, I have to admit...Look at this! Isn't it wonderful when you see how water can carve a brand new landscape from its sheer power? Of course, when it's near your house and your porch collapses and your house floods- it's not so appealing! But out in nature, we are free to just enjoy!

I hope you all loved this journey through central California near the Sierra Nevadas, from a very safe distance away! hehe

yes - the air up here is clean and fresh because of all the trees and being above all the pollution in the air!! it's such a wonderful place to live! :)

thank you for visiting!

Thank you for your article. California is definitely a beautiful place you can call home apart from all the politics. I live in central California myself. The beauty of this place never ceases to amaze me.

Thank you so much @hive-145540! I appreciate you coming by - I surely love nature too hehehehe

We are endowed with nature and how it encapsulate our mind. Though when it rains, roads are affected because of how damage it ends, but nature is actually amazing when it brings another new ray of hope.
I love how majestic the sky and mountains are but what it does to civilization is always havoc just as you have said.

Hi gorgeous!! i've been thinking about you and that post - hehehe it will be coming next week i think hehehe i'll be sure to tag you in it :)

but yes - civilization is in trouble when Nature rears her head hahahaha

but when we can just bask in her beauty! oh my goodness... so inspiring and lovely!

Hehehe,, I can´t wait for it then. I am waiting 😎💃

Hopefully we hope that nature is always the best for us.Having seen some pictures of the college which is quite beautiful and the water flowing over it is also very nice.

I really love that waterfall picture also!!! :)

Yes, friends, hopefully next time when we have the same opportunity, hopefully we can find pictures of waterfalls together in any available countries.😃👍

It's sort of bittersweet.. on the one hand you get beautiful sight of those snow melting waterfalls, on the other hand they cause havoc.. Those devastated roads look scary. I am blessed to live in a part of the world where we don't suffer from wildfires, floods or any other natural disasters and I cannot even imagine how it feels when you have to evacuate from your home not knowing if there will be a place to come back...

oh yes @delishtreats - you said it perfectly! bittersweet!!!

and the roads are especially scary at night!!!!

and you are SO CORRECT - when we had to evacuate - it was like.. ohmy gosh - are we even going to have anything to return to?!?!?! and you just don't know. it makes it a lot easier to learn to live with your hands wide open - you know??

thanks for this beautiful comment :) i enjoyed your engagement!

Yep, natures forces… they can devastate a lot. But… like you said they are pretty too. Just to see what water can do, or fire, or snow… living remote, especially up in the mountains. Teaches one a lot 😎
Happy new week to you 👋🏻😊

it really does teach a lot!

it teaches us how to be grateful for evrythign we have and not to take anything for granted - right? hehehehe

hi there @littlebee4!!! i hope the start of your week is going amazing! hehehehe

Indeed… and never do that, take anything for granted. Let’s enjoy our little happiness… 😊
The week was crazy busy… trying to catch up now… 5 days… oefffff !LOL

What a beautiful area, it's nice that there are still places where not everything appears to have been tamed. In reality none of it has been, but it certainly looks like it when you view a city from the air, or the top of a skyscraper.

heheheh i feel the same way - when i'm looking down from the mountain at the city below - in the valley - or from an airplane... everything is so beautiful an dpeaceful from up there hehehehe

but i do know what you mean - when things are untamed... wow.. hehehe like - in the raw and no people nearby!!! love that!!!!!!! LOVE that!!!

p.s. hi you :)

Yeah, even if we developed every inch of Earth, including the oceans we'd still be at the mercy of the natural world. But the appearance of being separate is definitely there when it's not easily visible...
