Did you know that the bald eagle almost lost out to the turkey when the voting for our national bird occurred? If Benjamin Franklin would have had his way it would have been the turkey. It makes me wonder if we would be eating bald eagle for thanksgiving then?
But as luck would have it, the bald eagle won 2 out of 3 votes. And I have to say that I am a big fan of eagle photography. They are just so regal. I had a goal this season working in Alaska to capture some Eagle in flight photos. I have a few here that are both crisp and dramatic.
Eagle about to take off from an algae covered rock with dramatic clouds behind it.
The sunlight was hitting this eagle just right, with dark shadows behind, to compose this shot.
It takes bald eagles 3 to 5 years to get the white head feathers.
I love the details of the feather edges on this flying eagle.
Sometimes the sky is so bright that it ends up as a white background, almost like you are shooting in the studio.
One more from the dramatic series of eagle in flight over the algae covered rocks. Alaska is the best place in the world for bald eagles.
I hope you enjoyed the photos. It took a lot of time and patience to get these shots.
