With the motorhome you pass some places that you have not really planned.
So we were on the way to Bruges for a short overnight stop in Maastricht.
The city is located in the southernmost part of Holland and is probably one of the most important destinations for tourists in the Netherlands.
The center with the suburb of Wyck is protected as a total work of art. In the middle of it is the university.
Since we didn't really have much time, we just walked around the city for a few hours and looked around a bit.
This is part of the pedestrian zone. Actually, the stores are the same in every city now.
So you could post these pictures for almost every city in Europe.
But here was something special. On this picture on the left you can already guess it.
The Rubber Duck Store.
How cool. A store just with bath ducks.
While I'm not a collector of these figures, I know there are collectors out there. And for them, this store must be a mecca.
Of course, we also went to the store. The interest was already great.
If everywhere are only the zero-eight-fifteen boutiques, then something like this store is like a magnet.
Bath ducks in every form. I didn't even know where to start to photographs.
So I just took almost everything.

Pirates, rock stars, The Duckinator, Kiss and and and.
The amazement never ceased.
These figures were actually the only ones that didn't really fit in.
Mad.
Slimer.
OK, enough with bathing ducks. In the main square we had baked fish at the snack bar.
Yum. I'm not really into fish, but if the place fits, I'm always up for something like this.
This is the city hall of Maastricht.
Right at the town hall square, we briefly went to an outdoor restaurant and had a beer. Swinckels from the Netherlands. Well, it was OK. There are better beers, but if you are already there, it is also tried.
You should also look into the supermarkets when you are in another country. There you learn a lot about the consumer behavior of the people there.
I noticed here that there was a lot of minced meat. This is also in Germany, but in such a large variety, I have never noticed it in our country.
We didn't arrive by train, but still walked along the station.
Then there is already back to the campsite. Along the river by bike we were about 20 minutes from the city. In Holland this is no problem, because the cycle tracks there are 5 star luxury for Germans. Such a bike network as here we know unfortunately not.
The river is the Maas and you can cycle through a government district.
This picture was once really a nice coincidence. I didn't realize what kind of snapshot I was taking until I got home.
The bike path is there for everyone. And geese have priority here, of course.
Patiently, these geese moved across the path in front of us. They must have been very aware that no cyclist would disturb them in any way. Everyone stopped and waited.
It was only a short stop in Maastricht, but it was nice.
The next day we continued on to Bruges.
Mit dem Wohnmobil kommt man ja so an manchen Orten vorbei, die man eigentlich nicht wirklich eingeplant hat.
So waren wir auf dem Weg nach Brügge für einen kurzen Stopp über Nacht in Maastricht.
Die Stadt liegt am südlichsten Teil Hollands und ist wohl eines der bedeutendsten Zielorte für Touristen in den Niederlanden.
Das Zentrum mit der Vorstadt Wyck steht als Gesamtkunstwerk unter Denkmalschutz. Mitten drin ist die Universität.
Da wir nicht wirklich viel Zeit hatten, sind wir nur ein paar Stunden durch die Stadt gelaufen und haben uns ein bisschen umgesehen.
Das hier ist ein Teil der Fußgängerzone. Eigentlich sind die Geschäfte mittlerweile in jeder Stadt gleich.
Man könnte also diese Bilder fast für jede Stadt in Europa posten.
Aber hier war dann mal etwas besonderes. Auf diesem Bild links kann man es schon erahnen.

Wie cool. Ein Shop nur mit Badeenten.
Ich bin ja kein Sammler von diesen Figuren, ich weiß aber, dass es Sammler gibt. Und für die muss dieser Laden ein Mekka sein.
Natürlich sind auch wir in den Shop gegangen. Das Interesse war schon groß.
Wenn überall nur die Nullachtfünfzehn Boutiquen sind, dann ist sowas wie dieser Laden wie ein Magnet.
Badeenten in jeder Form. Ich wusste gar nicht, wo ich anfangen soll zu Photographien.
Also hab ich einfach mal fast alles aufgenommen.

Das Staunen hörte nicht mehr auf.
Diese Figuren waren eigentlich die einzigen, die nicht wirklich reingepasst haben.

OK, Schluss mit Badeenten. Auf dem Hauptplatz gab es für uns dann am Imbiss gebackenen Fisch.
Lecker. Eigentlich steh ich nicht so auf Fisch, aber wenn der Ort passt, dann bin ich bei sowas immer dabei.
Das ist das Rathaus von Maastricht.
Direkt am Rathausplatz sind wir kurz in ein Restaurant im Freien und haben uns ein Bier gegönnt. Swinckels aus den Niederlanden. Na ja war OK. Gibt bessere Biere, aber wenn man schon mal da ist, wirds auch probiert.
Man sollte auch mal in die Supermärkte schauen, wenn man in einem anderen Land ist. Da lernt man viel über das Konsumverhalten der Menschen dort.
Mir ist hier aufgefallen, dass es Hackfleisch in Unmengen gab. Das gibts zwar auch in Deutschland, aber in so großer Vielfalt, ist mir es bei uns noch nie aufgefallen.
Wir sind zwar nicht mit der Bahn angereist, aber trotzdem am Bahnhof entlang gelaufen.
Dann gibt es schon wieder zurück zum Campingplatz. Am Fluß entlang mit dem Rad waren wir ungefähr 20 Minuten von der Stadt entfernt. In Holland ist das kein Problem, denn die Radwege dort sind 5 Sterne Luxus für Deutsche. So ein Radnetz wie hier kennen wir leider nicht.
Der Fluß ist die Maas und man kann durch ein Regierungsviertel fahren.
Dieses Bild war mal wirklich ein schöner Zufall. Es ist mir auch erst zu Hause aufgefallen, was ich da für einen Schnappschuss gemacht habe.
Der Radweg ist für alle da. Und hier haben Gänse natürlich Vorrang.
Geduldig zogen diese Gänse vor uns über den Weg. Es war ihnen wohl sehr bewusst, dass kein Radfahrer sie irgendwie stören würde. Alle haben angehalten und gewartet.
Es war zwar nur ein kurzer Stop in Maastricht, aber er war schön.
Am nächsten Tag ging es weiter nach Brügge.
Thanks for showing us around Maastricht and the duck shop is quite quaint. I think generally prices seem much cheaper in DE than in other countries these days and sometimes by a large margin. I am not quite sure why there is this phenomnem.

Das Fleisch finde ich, im Gegensatz zu DE, ziemlich teuer in Holland. Wahrscheinlich greifen deshalb viele Leute auf Gehacktes zurück, weil es günstiger ist. Was mir in Holland oft gar nicht gefällt ist, das vieles in Folie gewickelt ist. Einzelne Paprikas werden in Folie gepackt, Obst ist häufig schon geschnitten und in Plastik verpackt, etc.
Hm ja das mit dem Preis könnte ein Grund sein.
Auf die Obstverpackungen achte ich ehrlich gesagt nicht mehr, seitdem ich in Deutschland mal ausgepackte, geviertelte Bananen in einer vakuumierten Styroporverpackung gesehen habe.
