La Carretera Austral comprende un tramo de 1240Km que atraviesa a Chile de norte a sur bordeando la Cordillera de los Andes. Teniendo esto en cuenta es fácil predecir que el clima ha de variar bastante sumando el terreno montañoso y la variabilidad en las alturas en los distintos tramos de este recorrido.
Hacerlo en bicicleta es una tendencia en el mundo de los aventureros, esto implica llevar un equipo técnico adecuado para sufrir lo menos posible las inclemencias del tiempo.

Hoy quiero compartirles basada en mi experiencia cómo viví estas variaciones.
Para empezar puedo asegurarles que así es. Hicimos el recorrido en tramos de 50km por día promedio. Y les aseguro que en cuestión de kilómetros y de pocas horas podías pasar por las cuatro estaciones afrontando calor, viento y lluvias. Al estar en zona montañosa y a pesar de que algunos pronosticos eran bastante atinados es muy común que una tormenta te encuentre en la cima de una cuesta, y que al bajar el calor te azote, o peor aún el frio te entumezca.

We did the route in stretches of 50km per day on average. And I assure you that in a matter of kilometers and a few hours you could go through the four seasons facing heat, wind and rain. Being in a mountainous area and despite the fact that some forecasts were quite accurate, it is very common that a storm finds you at the top of a slope, and when going down the heat lashes you, or even worse, the cold numbs you. |

Considero importante planificar la ruta. Más o menos tener una idea de en dónde terminar el día acampando y eso es algo que se puede hacer consultando distintas aplicaciones o con personas que cruzas en la ruta.
Claro que puedes improvisar, eso si no te importa tanto tener que esforzarte un poco más por llegar a un lugar adecuado para pasar la noche o hacerlo en cualquier lugar. Y personalmente creo que el viajar en bici en un territorio con este es en sí mismo una gran aventura como para tomar riesgos innecesarios.
| ENG | I think it is important to plan your route. More or less have an idea of where to end the day camping and that is something that can be done by consulting different applications or with people you cross on the road. Of course you can improvise, that is if you don't mind having to make a little more effort to get to a suitable place to spend the night or do it anywhere. And personally I think that traveling by bike in a territory with this is in itself a great adventure to take unnecessary risks. |

Incluso calculando todos los factores posibles siempre existe un margen de error, y esto quedó demostrado en este episodio donde el terreno donde acampamos no era el mejor, dada la poca capacidad de absorción del suelo en relación a la tormenta que se avecinaba.
El resultado: amanecimos con la carpa inundada. Gracias a las colchonetas nos enteramos al abrir los ojos y no antes, de que la carpa estaba en un charco de agua enorme y el agua habia entrado hasta inundarnos. Afortunadamente el próximo destino estaba a no tantos kilómetros y era un refugio con estufa y agua caliente. Recompensa suficiente para recargar energías y seguir ruta cuando la lluvia cesó.
| ENG | Even calculating all possible factors there is always a margin of error, and this was demonstrated in this episode where the terrain where we camped was not the best, given the poor absorption capacity of the soil in relation to the storm that was coming. The result: we woke up with the tent flooded. Thanks to the mattresses we found out when we opened our eyes and not before, that the tent was in a huge pool of water and the water had entered until it flooded us. Fortunately the next destination was not so many kilometers away and it was a shelter with a stove and hot water. It was reward enough to recharge our batteries and continue on our way when the rain stopped. |

Así es, amigos, que desde mi humilde opinión, viajes como estos es mejor afrontarlos con equipo adecuado y planificando tramos para reducir riesgos.
Después de todo, lo que todo aventurero quiere es contar la historia luego, verdad?
