Exploring Sherwood Forest: Hiding Place of Robin Hood

in Pinmapple14 days ago

Sherwood Forest, the hiding place of the legendary Robin Hood, who stole from the rich to give to the poor was our next destination for a good walk. It is said that Robin and his Merry Men would hide out in the thick forest to evade capture by the Sheriff of Nottingham.

All the walking trails start at the Visitor Centre. After that there are markers to guide you on your way. I have no sense of direction so this is appreciated.

We've been to see the Major Oak, the hiding place of Robin Hood many times, so we decided on this occasion to choose a different route.

The gnarly trees that line the footpaths create a sense of eeriness. Their branches seem to reach out like they are trying to grab hold of you.

I think someone was watching over us!

As you wander through the forest, you can almost imagine hearing the sound of horses' hooves as Robin Hood and his men rode through the trees.

I would have enjoyed being part of his gang. We can do with him today as the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer.

Like all other tourist places, and the fact it is so interesting, it can get busy at times, but if you choose your visit wisely you can avoid the crowds.

And to round the walk up, we treated ourselves to some refreshments.
