Venezuela, es un país hermoso y no lo digo solo por ser el país donde nací sino también por todo el turismo que hay en él. Y, para ser más precisa, hoy les hablaré un poco de este sitio histórico y a la vez turístico de la zona donde vivo, sí, el Oriente del país, donde abunda el mar y las sabrosas playas, precisamente ahí en el cerro más alto de la primogénita del continente, Cumaná, está el Castillo "San Antonio de la Eminencia", el que alguna vez fué una fortaleza que protegía la ciudad de las incursiones piratas.

El Castillo está ubicado en el centro histórico de la ciudad, cerro Pan de Azucar, barrio San Francisco, muy cerca de la Iglesia Santa Inés, Cumaná.

Este castillo fue construido, se estima, a mediados del siglo XVII, se hizo para proteger a los habitantes de las incursiones piratas y era una gran fortaleza en su época, está construido con arenisca de los cerros de Cumaná y sus paredes tienen un grosor de 2 metros. Su construcción es como una estrella de 4 puntas las cuáles cada una apunta a un punto cardinal. Desde la cima se pueden observar las aguas del golfo de Cariaco y la península de Araya.

En este castillo se albergaron prisioneros, como por ejemplo, José Antonio Páez acusado de intentar derrocar el gobierno de José Tadeo Monagas, para ese entonces. Además, se dice que este castillo tiene túneles y pasadizos secretos que conectan toda la ciudad. Si alguna vez haz visto la película Así en la tierra como en el infierno, entenderás mi emoción al narrar estas palabras.
Mi experiencia visitando este lugar fue única única, muy emocionante y fue un momento de conocimiento y turismo que me llenó como Sucrense.
