Today we visit La Catedral del Mar (Barcelona), one of the greatest expressions of Catalan Gothic architecture. The images accompanying the text correspond to two recent visits.
In one of them we were fortunate enough to enjoy a great downpour and the peculiar sight of a chorus of gargoyles spitting water over our heads.
Therefore, although I narrate this trip as if it were a single visit, the sensations and even the emotions included in this publication are those provoked by two different and distinct visits.
On this occasion, I would like to invite three friends to accompany me on this tour who (although I may be wrong) I think will particularly enjoy it:

Hoy visitamos La Catedral del Mar (Barcelona), una de las grandes expresiones del gótico catalán. Las imágenes que acompañan el texto se corresponden a dos visitas realizadas recientemente.
En una de ellas tuvimos la fortuna de disfrutar de una gran tromba de agua y de la peculiar visión de un coro de gárgolas escupiendo agua sobre nuestras cabezas.
Por lo que, aunque narre este viaje como si se tratara de uno sólo, las sensaciones e incluso las emociones incluidas en esta publicación son las provocadas en dos visitas distintas y diferenciadas.
En esta ocasión quiero invitar especialmente para que me acompañen en este recorrido a tres amigas que (aunque me puedo equivocar) creo que les gustará especialmente:

Like many modern believers, we headed to the seaside neighborhood of La Ribera to visit the Cathedral of the Sea.
Between 1329 and 1383, the common people built their own temple, the Basilica of Santa María del Mar (the real name of the Cathedral of the Sea), without the help of the feudal lords.
We arrive by metro, getting off at El Clot-Aragón station. It doesn't take long to guess that this is medieval Barcelona.
Most of the buildings are later constructions, but the labyrinth of narrow streets leading to the Cathedral retains its medieval character.
A path where the contrasts between modernity and tradition are striking. At the foot of old buildings, urban art and modern design shops flourish.

Walking through these streets, the same routine unfolds. Graffiti, traditional bars, eye-catching shop windows aimed at tourists, and small grocery stores run by Pakistanis make up the landscape of the Ribera district.
Finally, we arrive at Plaça de Santa Maria. In this square, besides the presence of several restaurants and bars with outdoor seating, stands the main entrance to the church, guarded by two large twin towers.
Transitando por estas calles se despliega la misma rutina. Grafitis, bares tradicionales, llamativos escaparates destinados al turista junto pequeñas tiendas de alimentación regentadas por pakistaníes, van conformando el paisaje del Barrio de la Ribera.
Por fin llegamos a la Plaça de Santa Maria. Una plaza en la que además de la presencia de varios locales dedicados a la hostelería y terrazas se levanta, custodiada por dos grades torres gemelas, la portada principal del templo.

The view of the cathedral from Plaça de Santa Maria reminds me once again of Ildefonso Falcones' novel. The history of this monument is quite unique.

Inside the temple, the feeling is strange, doubt arises. On the one hand, there is the tourist in all of us, wanting to immortalize our visit to this sacred place. On the other hand, a little voice warns me that it is not right to act like a tourist out of respect for the temple and the parishioners present at that moment.

Everything changes when guilt sees the temple itself as a tourist attraction selling all kinds of souvenirs, and then the little voice goes from shouting to whispering.

Entre la Tierra y el Cielo nos vamos encontrando con mumerosas vidrieras con escenas bíblicas. Entre todas estas fuentes de luz destaca el gran rosetón multicolor.

Good morning @mdrguez. The cathedral is very modest from the outside... but inside it's fantastic, at least in my opinion. The story not mentioned in the post is that the official cathedral in Barcelona was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, almost at the same time as the Cathedral of the Sea. The official cathedral (Barcelona Cathedral) was built with the vast fortunes of the aristocracy.
The result was that the one built in the maritime district surpassed the official cathedral in beauty. The official cathedral is overly ostentatious and lacks good taste (that's my opinion).

Absolutely amazing and impressive this cathedral and thank you very much for the mention, of course it fascinated me. Not only were there portals to walk through, in fantasy form but one is led to this architectural beauty with so much history in each of its rocks. I think that's what I liked the most, the way it's done. Every detail has art and of course I can't fail to mention the stained glass windows full of colour that contrast with the colour of the rocks, the towers made a great impact on me and the whole environment is worth visiting.
You have brought something that speaks in its walls and that is part of a beautiful culture, but above all the art, the art is like out of this world. Thank you for that, a big hug!

Me encantó de principio a fin. Leí la novela de Ildefonso Falcones y he visto la serie. Ambas me gustaron. Cada una en su formato nos acercan a la historia de este templo que es majestuoso, sobre todo por el esfuerzo de quienes lo levantaron con la devoción como motivación. La vi por fuera cuando estuve en Barcelona pero me perdí el interior. Gracias a ti lo descubro más impresionante de lo que me lo imaginaba. Por cierto, cuando he visto las imágenes de vírgenes me ha extrañado la ausencia de la Pilarica... y después cuando me la he encontrado ha sido una inmensa alegría verla ahí tan bonita. 😁 Lo que más me ha impresionado han sido los pilares que parecen montar guardia ante el altar con una altura infinita y las coloridas vidrieras. Lástima que ese día no luciera el sol para que su efecto fuera más apreciable. Mil gracias por este post, lo disfruté muchísimo. Un abrazo.

Sobre la novela, es inevitable imaginarse la vida de ese pueblo que con devoción levantó esta maravilla.
Sobre la lluvia, creo que es la primera vez que he visto a Barcelona bajo esa lluvia. Al día siguiente tenía reservada la visita al Parque Güell, así que al final tuve suerte en el viaje. Comenzó a llover cuando salía del parque.

Es un magnífico paseo sin duda alguna tomados de tu mano. Es como nos muestras el lugar desde lo que tu observas nos das un panorama muy especial, cada fotografía es un detalle es un espacio. Me sonreí con las personas atrapadas por la lluvia en el portal de la iglesia. Son momentos inesperados atrapados y aportados a la historia, allí hay reflejos de momentos. Me encantan los ventanales o vitrales ellos cambian con la luz del día reflejando imágenes que el artista quería compartir con nosotros y quizás contarnos una historia. Las calles se despejan ante la lluvia, la limpian y nos dejan reflejos de los edificios cercanos. No conocía esta advocación mariana.
Mi hija estuvo trabajando es Barcelona me dijo que es una ciudad muy grande y diversa. La recuerdo montada en torres de corriente supervisando a los obreros en sus trabajos, metida entre el monte.
Esos imágenes del metro o tren se ven modernas pero también extrañas como hechas por jóvenes del grafiti.
Me encantó el paseo que nos has dado y agradezco la oportunidad de mirar siempre otros espacios. Un abrazo.

Muchas gracias Sacra por acompañarme en este paseo. Te diré, que siendo de Madrid, me encanta Barcelona. No para vivir, claro. Para vivir en una gren ciudad me quedo en Madrid.
Sobre el templo estuve mirando por Hive y me parece ser un gran reclamo turístico, quizás por su exterior tan modesto. Pero es una joya de edificio. El metro está en la publicación con el fin de mostrar el contraste entre lo urbano y lo sagrado y, esto es muy personal, mostrar el arriba y el abajo.
