La Ciudad Amurallada de Cartagena [ESP/ENG]

Hola a todos! Además de visitar Medellín, Paweł, Olivia y yo también visitamos la costa caribeña colombiana, específicamente la ciudad de Cartagena de Indias, y por supuesto que teníamos que ir a la increíble y hermosa Ciudad Amurallada o conocida también como el centro histórico de Cartagena, la cual estarán viendo un poco en fotos a lo largo de este post. Este lugar encantador y asombroso tiene mucho turismo e historia y además ha sido declarada patrimonio de la humanidad por la UNESCO.

Hello everyone! Besides visiting Medellin, Paweł, Olivia and I also visited the Colombian Caribbean coast, specifically the city of Cartagena de Indias, and of course we had to go to the amazing and beautiful Walled City or also known as the historic center of Cartagena, which you will be seeing a bit in pictures throughout this post. This charming and amazing place has a lot of tourism and history and has also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Les cuento que nosotros estuvimos en Cartagena pocos días (3 días específicamente) y visitamos la Ciudad Amurallada una vez en el día (a eso de las 11 am) por lo que lo primero que les puedo decir es que es una ciudad muy calorosa pero llena de mucha historia. Solo nos tomó un par de minutos en llegar hasta allí en Uber desde nuestro hotel (Hotel las Américas que por cierto recomiendo mucho), el Uber nos dejó cerca de la Torre del reloj o Puerta del reloj que es la puerta de entrada principal al centro histórico de Cartagena de Indias y que ven en la foto de abajo, ya de ahí empezamos a recorrer caminando las hermosas calles de la ciudad amurallada.

We were in Cartagena for a few days (3 days specifically) and we visited the Walled City once in the day (around 11 am) so the first thing I can tell you is that it is a very hot city but full of history. It only took us a couple of minutes to get there by Uber from our hotel (Hotel las Americas which by the way I highly recommend), the Uber left us near the Clock Tower or Puerta del reloj which is the main entrance to the historic center of Cartagena de Indias and you see in the picture below, and from there we started walking the beautiful streets of the walled city.

Ahora bien, la razón por la que fuimos allí, además de conocer la ciudad amurallada, fue para encontrarnos con mi hermosa amiga @bluevibes con quien les cuento la pasamos increíble, pero como nosotros llegamos primero que ella y su pareja Fer, decidimos dar un par de vueltas antes para buscar un lugar para comer, lo cual fue un poco difícil encontrar ya que a esa hora la mayoría de restaurantes estaban cerrados por lo que terminamos comiendo en la cadena de comida rápida KFC pero la verdad es que hay mucha variedad gastronómica allí, así que no se preocupen por eso.

Now, the reason we went there, besides seeing the walled city, was to meet my beautiful friend @bluevibes with whom I tell you we had an amazing time, but as we arrived before her and her partner Fer, we decided to go a couple of laps before to find a place to eat, which was a little difficult to find because at that time most restaurants were closed so we ended up eating at the fast food chain KFC but the truth is that there is a lot of gastronomic variety there, so do not worry about that.

Algo que destaca en la ciudad amurallada es la elegancia de la arquitectura colonial, las casas de colores vibrantes con balcón y decoradas con plantas o flores, calles empedradas, edificios e iglesias espectaculares y hermosas y plazas llenas de gente aunque más por la noche, y además de restaurantes o sitios para tomar algo, en la ciudad amurallada también encontrarás vendedores ambulantes, tiendas, arte y la bandera de Colombia colgada en algunas partes.

Something that stands out in the walled city is the elegance of the colonial architecture, the vibrant colored houses with balconies and decorated with plants or flowers, cobblestone streets, spectacular and beautiful buildings and churches and squares full of people although more at night, and besides restaurants or places to have a drink, in the walled city you will also find street vendors, stores, art and the Colombian flag hanging in some parts.

Dicen que por la noche hay más vida y ambiente en la ciudad amurallada, pues como ven en las fotos en el día no había tanta, aun así a nosotros sin duda nos encantó este lugar, y nos pareció un momento adecuado para conversar con mi amiga Vanessa y por supuesto con Fer, ah y por cierto algo que nos dijeron mucho antes de ir allí a todos y que ahora se los repito a ustedes es que siempre pregunten precios antes de consumir, ya que a veces hay algunos aprovechados especialmente con las personas que se nota que son extranjeros (como mi esposo Pawel jajajaja) ah y paciencia con algunos venderos ambulantes que se molestan porque no les compran, pero no se preocupen también hay costeños muy amables, así que, no esperen más para conocer esta increíble joya de la costa colombiana, se los recomiendo.

They say that at night there is more life and atmosphere in the walled city, well as you see in the photos in the day there was not so much, even so we certainly loved this place, and we thought it was a good time to talk with my friend Vanessa and of course with Fer, oh and by the way something that we were told long before going there to all and now I repeat to you is to always ask prices before consuming, because sometimes there are some people who take advantage especially with people that you can tell they are foreigners (like my husband Pawel hahahaha) ah and patience with some street vendors who get upset because they do not buy, but do not worry there are also very friendly coastal people, so, do not wait any longer to know this incredible jewel of the Colombian coast, I recommend it to you.
