Greetings of the day,
Pokhran Fort is situated in the sands of Thar Desert of Rajasthan state has its own distinct identity. I and some of my friends had gone from dakor bhathiji maharaj to pokhran visit today. When the high walls and domes of the fort became visible from a distance many stories of history started floating in my mind.

Pokhran which lies near Jaisalmer district is known for its historical and cultural heritage of the india. This is the same place where Thakurs once ruled and where even today glimpses of that period can be seen. It is said that the Pokhran Fort is have been formed in the 14th century during the reign of Shree Rao Maldeo Rathore and was once one of the main princely states of his dynasty in the India.
As soon as we entered inside the main gate of the fort it felt as if we had gone back in time. The thick stone wall the old door and the scent of sand in the air everything was very beautiful. As soon as we went inside, we headed towards the domes. The tall domes, beautiful carvings and fine art done on stone were worth seeing.
The views of the Thar spread far from the courtyard of the fort were captivating. We took many pictures here, spent some quiet moments and felt the aroma of those old times.
There is a small but very interesting museum inside the fort. It is as if this place has preserved time. Old swords shields guns spears and traditional Rajasthani clothes are kept here.
Looking at the weapons hanging on the walls, one felt that real wars might have once been fought with them. The carvings on some of the swords and the old rusted bullet cases gave me goosebumps. The wooden padukas (slippers) kept nearby were telling the story of that simplicity, where elegance and simplicity went together.
Also saw some rare paintings here, in which portraits of kings and queens of Rajputana dynasty were carved. It was also quite interesting to see traditional Rajasthani attire and jewelery in the clothing section.
Pokhran Fort is not only a historical heritage, but it is also a symbol of Rajputana culture and bravery of Rajasthan. The fort is said to have seen many wars and political changes. Its walls are still a witness to the struggles and glorious history of that era.
The architecture of fort appears to be a mix of Rajasthani and Mughal styles. The walls made of red stone emit a golden glow in the sun and fragrance of the soil of Rajasthan is felt from every corner.
We spent whole day roaming around the fort. Sometimes they would take photographs sometimes they would sit in a corner and enjoy the cool breeze of the sand. This journey with friends became memorable. When the rays of the sun fell on walls of the fort in the evening the scene was no less than a scene from a movie.
The best time to visit Pokhran Fort is considered to be winter when weather is pleasant and you can see entire fort without getting tired.
If you are interested in the history architecture or culture of Rajasthan then Pokhran Fort should definitely be on your travel list.
Here we get not only a glimpse of the old dynasties, but also a feeling that exists only in the soil of Rajasthan – a confluence of bravery, art and soul.
Every corner, every wall and every old object tells you something… you just need to listen.
