Hello @worldmappin friends, how are you spending your week? On this side we are fine thank God.
I recently had the good fortune to attend an exhibition that left me deeply moved. It is called Memoria de la Selva (Memory of the Jungle) and it was on display at the Miragua shopping mall, in Playa El Agua, here in Margarita. I went thanks to a friend who invited me and together we walked through every corner of this exhibition that, more than an exhibition, is a journey to the heart of the Venezuelan Amazon.
The exhibition is a joint effort and brings together pieces from the Ye'kwana, Yanomami, Panare, Piaroa and Curripaco ethnic groups, among others. The space was full of colors, textures, sound and above all, stories. What I liked most was that each piece had a meaning. They were not decorative objects, they were part of the life of the peoples of the Venezuelan Amazon who inhabit the jungle, their customs, their beliefs, their way of seeing the world.
There were sculptures carved in wood in the shapes of animals such as tapirs, crocodiles, anteaters and others that, we were told, represent the link between the earthly and the spiritual. We also saw baskets woven with beautiful designs, crowns made with colorful feathers and natural fibers, masks used in rituals, and even a curiara a traditional canoe that seemed to tell us the story of the rivers and the life that flows in them.
Each piece was made by indigenous artisans, with ancestral techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation. I was very impressed to know that everything there had a purpose to hunt, to celebrate, to heal, to teach. Nothing was casual.
In addition, there were photographs and videos showing how these communities live, how they connect with nature, how they take care of their environment. It was like peeking into a world that we often ignore, but which is full of wisdom and beauty.
What touched me the most was to feel that this exhibition not only showed art, but also invited us to reflect on our roots, on what we are and what we have forgotten. I left there with a full heart, wanting to learn more, to value more, to care more.
Thank you for joining me on this little trip through Memoria de la Selva. It was a delightful experience and reminded me of the deep beauty that dwells in our roots. I hope that someday you can live something similar and that it connects you with this culture, as it happened to me. See you soon friends, Greetings and Blessings. 🌿✨
