Hari Raya Pasar Malam at the Woodlands // Singapore Night Market Experience

in Pinmapple • last month

Singapore is getting close to one of the biggest events in the city, the Hari Raya. It’s happening on 2 specific dates, the first is on the 10th of April which is the Hari Raya Puasa and the other one is on the 17th of June which is the Hari Raya Haji. Because of this event, there are Pasar Malams scattered around the city.

In case you’re wondering, Pasar Malam translates to “night market” in English. It’s one of the best spots to eat something unique and have fun.

A staple in this kind of Pasar Malam is the giant containers of Thai milk tea blends. My favorite among these flavors is the classic "orange" milk tea and the next one is the green tea version. This drink has the best value of S$5 for a liter of cup.

Since this is a Hari Raya-themed bazaar, many of the stalls are either Malaysian or Indonesian cuisines. One of the stalls that caught my attention is the stall that offers Kueh and Otah using the traditional recipe of making them.

Aside from the usual Japanese, Malaysian, and Indonesian cuisines, I also noticed a new food concept in this bazaar.

The cute fish-like pastries from Japan, the Taiyaki!

Another interesting item to try is a traditional Indian street food, the Panipuri!

The apparel and household items stalls are at the further end of the bazaar.

Next to it are the mini theme park areas. I saw the classic bump cars and the kiddie rides as well. It's a Sunday night so there are not many goers in this part of the bazaar. I'm guessing that the kids were here during the morning or probably during the Fridays and Saturdays.

These Pasar Malams only last for a month so it’s a good idea to go there at least 2-3 times to try the food and the leisure activities. It’s a good place to hang out with friends and family to enjoy the food and events as well.

What’s interesting about these Pasar Malams is that they offer food that you won’t see in shopping malls. There are a variety of comfort that anyone may try. The food is also the authentic ones.

I'm glad that the traditional bazaar or Pasar Malam is still an ongoing event in these modern times. I hope that it will keep going and it will keep evolving to suit the preferences of the younger generations.

My journey to the world of places.

Wow, this looks awesome, I wish we had markets like these. The closest we come I think is The Taste Of Colorado which is only for one weekend and it's only the food stalls really, though I think they might have music from bands too.

Wahhh, there are a lot to see in there. I think I will be the one who'll get tired checking all the stalls. That's a good place to discover something new too.
