Wow, that was one hell of a (buzz)party in Graz! Booking an early morning buzz, oh, I mean a bus (still a bit buzzed!) to Maribor was hardly the brightest move ever, but hey, I am a traveler deep in my fishy beer-soaked soul! And since you’ve read some posts from the party, all green in envy for not coming and feeling blue for staying home, or you even sneakily stalked the Telegram or Discord groups, you know all the publishable bits of what you missed, and some rumors perhaps. I won’t waste your time with that, and unveil a sneak peek of Slovenia instead. I witnessed the firefighters' revolution there. They were swapping flags for some reason.

The town felt oddly empty with no amazing Hiveans around – and I was in a melancholic mood after sleeping just a few hours (I’d slept even less if the only bar sheltering night wanderers of Graz didn’t shut at two sharp - Sleep’s overrated!) to catch my bus. It dropped me right in front of a house where Nikola Tesla allegedly stayed – just a boring real estate agency nowadays. I felt more in need of surreal estates than these real ones, though, and left it behind for others to explore.

Rather than ticking off the usual tourist spots, I wandered the streets and the city park randomly—I’ve always preferred being a traveler to a tourist—so here’s an unconventional report of what caught my eye in the park. Like a fish swimming alongside a turtle.

They chilled in a pond in the park, which even apparently @ninaeatshere approves. I guess its just the perfect spot for picnics.

I nearly took the Via Crucis path through vineyards on the Maribor outskirts, but I wasn’t prepared to face the midday sun atop Golgotha Hill—no desire to add my skull to the others on the Hill of Skulls. Oh yes, it's somewhere up there!

Instead, I took the promenade back downtown, passing what looked like another god—or perhaps just a nude kid with a drinking problem, who am I to judge?—before heading straight for a piano to snap a shot for @mipiano.

Art in the streets, you say? Oh, there’s plenty of that in Maribor. Let’s start with some words of wisdom adorning bland walls.

Other walls are invaded by giant ants.

Let's move forward to the nook of vice with a genuine 1990s sex shop. It is no match for the 24/7 kurwa & sex toy place in Graz!

And now for something serious for a change: the Old Bridge and its riverside bank, where I ended up playing frisbee with the founder of Maribor’s top spot. Stay tuned for my next Beersaturday post—yes, it’s a craft microbrewery (did you expect anything less?)—and keep an eye out for the swan that collects toll at the foot of the little pedestrian bridge below the old one.

If you ever find yourself walking the riverbank, don’t miss the world’s oldest grapevine. It’s been growing and bearing fruit for over 400 years. Not a typo, it has been there for 4 centuries.

So much for wandering the town. Stay tuned for the brewery :)

Nina approves the place, and I approve the piano. 😁
Nina is going to approve the place from my next post - wait for it ;)
I expected to see much busier city vibes from Maribor... Or you picked those quiet places to visit, or the city is like that, but I really like its vibe... Those countryside photos are astonishing!!! The only thing missing on that green grass is Hivians having a picnic! 😂
It's a town rather than a city; and I guess most people left it for the super-nice summerish weekend anyway.
Yes! We should have occupied it!
I miss playing catch with the frisbee. I don't really have anyone I can do it with to much anymore. I guess that is part of the reason I have started playing disc golf more in the past couple of years. It's not quite the same, but still a lot of fun. This looks like a beautiful area. I envy the folks who live in Europe that get to have these meetups all the time. We don't do things like this in the US for HIVE, I am guessing due to the distances or something.
Heh, most people traveled for like 10 hours to get there - I spent seven hours on a train to Graz, and then eight on a bus on the way home from Maribor, and it was below average I guess. So these distances are pretty relative :) If there was a meetup in one of the major cities with well-connected airports, you could actually get there faster than most of us to Graz :)
I see. The state I live in it can take you 10 hours to get from just one side to the other. That's just one state. Planes do seem to make things a bit easier! I'm glad you were able to attend either way.

I'm glaf you liked it :)
Swan?! I knew we were living hard times, but hadn't realized it was this bad. Not even trolls are safe anymore. Sheesh.
Pretty town.
Also, don't say 24/7 sex toy and kurwa place like that...people will start wondering just what kind of buzzparty it was :))
The Swan collects tolls, not trolls as I believe. It might be a Cygnet Committee official or something ;)
So how would you present it more decently, or perhaps more ladyish?
Yes, but what does that leave the poor trolls? Look at you making references you're much too young for. Or perhaps you're really a very old, crinkly man with an unwrinkly face and impeccable moisturizing habits.
More decently, perhaps I'd say that round-the-sun where gentlefolk of lonely disposition might relieve some tension by use of pleasurable contraptionsin the company of amenable dames.
As for the ladily, you'd have to ask a lady. :P
And yet you decipher these references!
I reckon I'll approach the AI waiter, who might secretly be a frequent customer, and consult the definition of yours. It wasn't so for from thr marvelous inn with such a cleverly placed emergency door after all.
Maybe I'm old, too.
Already planning a Graz encore, are you? That door might not have led very far in the physical plane, but it might just have been the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
P.S. Let me know what he says. Preferably not in ones and zeroes.
I'm not planning on another seven hour drive just to see that friendly face, I thought I might make a few calls, reserve a random number of tables and seats (maybe 6 tables and 4 seats) and then, once we've established that friendship, ask for the best 24/7 venue offering gentlemen's pleasure in the area. Wink wink (yes, winking on the phone ain't easy, and he might easily miss it).
6 tables 4 seats is just savage. Aren't you worried you'll send him into overdrive with that and he'll misunderstand entirely? He might think you're hitting on him. Worse, with no gentleman in sight, he might break down and start questioning his own existence and autonomy from the disembodied winking-blinking voice on the telephone.
The ancient grapevine really caught my attention! It's so amazing! You're lucky to be in Maribor, that vine must be so famous since it's a Guinness record holder as the world's oldest vine. I have always been fascinated by things with historical significance, and your grapevine in Maribor is one of these amazing ancient sentinels. Silently and steadfastly, this grapevine has witnessed what happened there through the ages, and if it can only tell a story, I would be very lucky and glad to listen to it. Thank you for sharing, this is one of the treasures of Maribor! 😊

funny to see that "sex shop" is the same in almost every language 😂
And yet you don't really need anything written there to grasp what the place is right :)
Thanks for curating the post!
If things are done small, they aren't done at all!
Talk about street words of wisdom!
Seems you had a great time and I love that swan, looks like she is nesting, so is that what she takes the toll for!
Roll on the brewery...
I did have a great, melancholic time after the party :) The brewery post is going to be publish on... well Saturday, obviously :))
Damn man those ants look very realistic. Wandering a city is enjoyable. I really love to do that. Every photo you've taken looks awesome, That bridge views especially
It's rather a town than a city, but I did enjoy roaming it for sure, even though I was in that melancholic mood after leaving everybody in Graz :)
Wow I see! I like your traveler way of visiting :)
Thanks for all your traveling tips :)
I'll be glad if I could ever inspire you :)
😄👌🏻
I always say, travelling with you is a lot of fun and you learn a lot. Awww... The swan, the 🐢 and the fish are beautiful details.
Hey, after so many years does one get sweet or sour? I ask because of the grapes. 🤭
Paso por la cervecería luego.
People in the buzzparty considered me rathrer sweet I must admit :)
Thanks for stopping by!

Když jsem včera toho Tipáka sliboval, tak tam ještě takový payout nebyl :) Snad to zas tak nevadí, že jsem ti tam ještě těch pár dolarů přihodil :)
Samozřejmě, že nevadí :)
Seems like a very nice day! Loved the pics and the write-up!
I'm glad you liked it :)
Makes me realize I need a bit of travel and wandering.
Do go for it! :)
I do have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks, so I will need to plan an excursion or two!
And don't forget Hive Fest in Kuala Lumpur!
Yeah. Don't know if I will be able to get off for that one or not! 😒
