The whole Mediterranean region is brimming with ancient monuments and landmarks: Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey, various islands (Malta, Cyprus, Crete, ...), the Balkans... And the Middle East... It would be hard to suggest just one for the second place on your to-see list ;)
