So I rocked up,
parked up,
Strolled up
to the little wooden hut to pay my fees
It was hot today
it was very hot
it was hotter than a smackheads spoon on giro day
i'm kinda glad.
to be asked for €6 for a ticket
by a baltic beauty
wearing spray on lycra minimalism
that make beach volleyball players
look
overdressed
i didn't even ask for my €2
seniors
reduced rate.
if only the National Trust would dispose of their twinset and pearls, their Harris Tweed suits and sensible shiny brogue shoes, for more leisurely wear (ahem)

History Time
Situated in beautiful Hara Bay, part of Lahemaa National Park, approximately 40 miles east of Tallinn.
The once top secret, Hara Submarine Base was established by the Russian military in September 1953 and grandly named Military unit No.53083
Military unit No. 53083 employed 100’s of military and scientific personnel here and across the bay at the research centre under the auspices of The Russian Academy of Sciences all were operational until the break up of the Soviet Union in 1991.
The sole purpose of the project being the demagnetisation of the submarines. The demag of a submarine's hull resulted in reducing the enemy's capability of detection.

The only area currently accessible is the southern jetty.
Unless
A) You come kitted out in SCUBA gear
B) You have a dinghy in the boot of your car
C) Your name is and you believe you are
Jesus Christ
and this is the second coming
( but ffs if its the latter, please keep it quiet)
So a nice little stroll then, although crumbling in parts the jetty is still strong and will last for eternity! (don't mention the rapture JC).
You do need to be watchful though as there are a few tripping hazards.
At this point I shall refer my learned friend to the afore mentioned points A-C.
journey's end, time to turn back
Russian script, barely visible in the flaking rendering on the jetty wall....
....and some street art, powerful, but i cant help thinking its popeye the sailorman.
....truth in humour?
I loved the simplicity of this drawing, protected from the elements, this is of a different class, a different time, I cant see a local artist paying homage to a Soviet submariner.

Time and tide wait for no man.
In 2018 the base attracted the attention of the Estonian Heritage Society who declared the site “a unique military facility on both the Estonian and global scale” . The intention is to now turn this Soviet-era military relic into a heritage site.
If this is the objective then in my opinion, fantastic, it’s good to see these more recent historic structures in countries of the former Soviet Union being preserved rather than being demolished.
An interesting, and, if like me you immerse yourself in the atmosphere a truly memorable stroll.
So back to the car via the entry kiosk, I think it's time to purchase a lolly ice.
But I cant help thinking
