Hunters Inn to Heddon's Mouth (and back again...)

in Pinmapple3 years ago (edited)

Forgive me, it's been a long time since my last post. I've recently moved house, relocated to a different part of the country, and slowly but surely piecing my life together again...

I have been lucky enough to move to Devon, in the South West of England, so a beautiful place to explore, lots of nature, wildlife, walking opportunities and beautiful scenery. I'll now have a lot more to share with you, so I'll becoming more regular I promise!

So for todays post, a walk from Hunters Inn, a wonderful hotel and restaurant and hotel in a secluded valley, at the head of a walk which takes you down through the woods and alongside a river to Heddons Mouth, a beautiful beach and tall cliffs overlooking the sea, looking over the Bristol Channel towards Wales.

We started off at the Hunters Inn, with a coffee and a delicious slice of cake to fuel the journey. The Hunters Inn is also home to a pair of Peacocks, who like to perch above the entrance...

There's also an old (but still working!) telephone box. In these days of mobile communication these are a rare sight. Mobile reception is almost no existent here so maybe it's a necessity!

The National Trust emblem marks the start of our walk. I think all of our route is across National Trust land...

The first part of our walk takes us through some beautiful woodland, with mossy growth covering trees and walls, and butterflies adding to the occasion...

We come to a signpost that gives us the option to go to Combe Martin along the Coast Path. This is for another day, a few practice walks first!

We continue through the woodland, this eventually gives way to a rockier landscape, with small rocks littering the hillside...

After nearly a mile, we can see the hillside opening up, and the see in the background, almost at our destination...

There's plenty of purple on Exmoor at the moment, the bees love it!

We've made it! At the top of the beach, there's the remains of an old lime kiln...

And above the lime kiln a few views of the beach and rocks which make up the landscape, it's a stark contrast to the woodland we've been following...

The weather was overcast, but still pleasant enough, here's a cloudscape snapped on the beach, looking over towards whales. I managed to spot a seal in the sea, but not quick enough to capture it on camera...

And then we returned back to Hunters Inn, we retraced our pathway part of the way back along the river, but then took a bridge over to the other side of the river. This gave us an opportunity to explore the other side of the river, with some bigger gradients, although still very manageable...

A wonderful way to get away from it all and spend a few hours exploring a quiet part of the world. I hoped you enjoyed my photos of the journey, I'll be sharing some more of my adventures soon!

That's great, many thanks!

It's really odd how those peacocks perch on the balcony, they're quite big birds aren't they?

They were perched at the beginning of the day, by the afternoon they were out and about chasing cars!
