Today, I want to share with you a famous place in the Hue - a beautiful city. This place has become a symbol of filial piety between children and their parents. And this is also a place with unique architecture in Hue. The place I want to mention is Tu Hieu Pagoda. Tu means benevolence, a necessary virtue of those who are Buddha-oriented, and Hieu is filial piety to parents. Impressive and meaningful name right?
Actually, the name of this pagoda also originates from an ancient story during the reign of King Tu Duc. The story goes that there was a monk who lived in a small temple. He had an old, sick mother, and in order for her to have better health and fight her illness, he had to walk very far to be able to buy meat and fish to cook porridge for his mother, but for a monk who bought meat and fish, that caused him to suffer a lot of harsh words from the people. But the truth behind that they did not know, King Tu Duc knew about the matter, so he investigated and when he knew the story of that monk, he was very impressed with the understanding of the Buddhist monk but still fulfilled the duty of a filial son. After his death, he gave his aunt a large campus of that temple and named it Tu Hieu Pagoda. This place also became the place where Buddhists chose to express their wishes for peace and send words of gratitude to their parents, on the occasion of Vu Lan, the 15th day of the July lunar month, which is the Vu Lan festival. Come here and wear red or white flowers to show your filial piety towards your parents.
The temple is located quite far from the city so it is very quiet, surrounded by a long river and green trees. When we come here we will feel the peace, and gentleness and feel the breath of the mountains. surrounding forests, trees, and rivers.
I had the opportunity to visit this temple because I have an old friend, who wanted to follow Buddhahood and become a nun here. It's been a while since we last met, and looking at her carefree, comfortable, and peaceful makes me also feel peace in my soul.
I am quite impressed with the beauty of this temple so I want to share it with you. If you have the opportunity to visit the dreamy land of Hue, please try to visit this temple.
