BMW welt and Olympic Park tour - Munich

in Worldmappin4 years ago (edited)

Ideally, I am the kind of person who spent plenty of time in each city that I visit but at the same time, I am one of those people who looks at their vacation days and tries to figure out how to squeeze in one more day. Before the pandemic started, I had planned to go to Vienna for 7 days and then to Prague for 4 more days, but as usual, I managed to squeeze in 2 more days to visit Hallstatt and Munich. Though it was not enough to see all the places in one day, I was quite satisfied with my short stay in Munich.

After seeing the city centre and the English Garden, I needed to fuel up, so I went to get something to eat. Outside the English garden, there are a few good restaurants, most of which serve famous Bavarian cuisine, but I tried some delicious Turkish food. You might wonder why I didn't try any Bavarian cuisine, such as Wurst and Beer. Actually, neither Wurst nor Beer are my favourites. I am, after all, a party breaker :p. So my next destination was Olympiapark. It would be a pity to visit Munich without paying a visit to the Olympiapark. The architecture of the 1970s is stunning and mind-blowing.

The Olympic Park is located in the Munich neighbourhood of Oberwiesenfeld. This park was built in preparation for the infamous 1972 Olympic Games. There are lakes and green rolling hills where you can sit while admiring the stunning architecture of the stadium.

Frankly speaking, after already been walking around 15 km I was tired so I sat on the grass field and enjoyed the view of lakes and hills.

This park, in my opinion, is a place where everyone can find something to do. You are welcome to bring your dog, children, and bicycle. During the spring and summer months, boating is also possible. If you want to read in peace, bring your picnic mat and a book.

The Olympiaturm stands at a height of 291 meters and weighs 52,500 tons. A revolving restaurant with 230 seats is located at an altitude of 182 meters. It takes 53 minutes to complete a full revolution. One Deutsche Telekom maintenance elevator with a speed of 4 m/s and two visitor lifts with a speed of 7 m/s and a capacity of about 30 people per cabin are available in the tower. It takes about 30 seconds to walk from the ground to the viewing platform.

The Olympic Hill is a must-see attraction for all visitors. The hill not only offers a spectacular view of the Olympic Stadium and the Park's unique architecture, but also a breathtaking view of Munich and the Bavarian Alps.

Following my visit to the beautiful Olympic Park, I went to the BMW Welt, which is located right next to the park. BMW has a museum dedicated to the history of automobiles that costs money to enter, but BMW welt is free to visit. It's a massive car showroom devoted to BMW, Rolls-Royce, and Mini. As a car enthusiast, I was very excited to visit the place.
