A Winter Trek to the Hidden Himalayan Hot Springs

in Pinmapple7 months ago

A hot water pool known as Tattvani. This place is not so famous that much information can be found about it on the internet, yes that is a different matter that I have tried hard to make this place famous. I visited this place more than 10 times while living in Beed. This hot water spring is located in Kangra Valley which is located in Himachal Pradesh.

To reach here, any tourist has to take a bus from Delhi which will drop you at Baijnath after 12 hours. Baijnath is about 460 km from Delhi. From Baijnath you will have to take a local bus which will take you to Deol Khas village. Deol Khas village is 8 km from Baijnath. From Deol you have to trek about 3 km on foot which directly takes you to Tattwani. Tattwani is situated at an altitude of 2850 meters above sea level.

Well, I was in Bir at that time and along with two of my friends we planned to go to Tattwani in January. Let me tell you that in the month of January, winter is at its peak in the entire Himalayas and here in Tattwani, snow also falls in winter. Since no one lives in Tattwani and there is only a goddess temple there, we decided to take everything with us. We took with us sleeping bags, mattresses, Maggi for food, tea and fruits for the morning. There was enough luggage for the three of us, so much so that we could stay there for 2 nights.

We left Bir by bus for Baijnath, we reached Baijnath in 40 minutes but from Baijnath we got the bus for Deol after 2 hours. This is a local bus and goes only 2 times a day. Although Deol is 8 km away, the bus took full 45 minutes to cover this distance. From Deol the bus will go back to Baijnath, the road in this valley is made only till Deol, anyway there is no other village above here. The height of Deol is 1850 meters. Started walking from Deol and after about 300 meters came a power project, talked to the guard on the project, the guard was a resident of Deol. He told us to proceed carefully and wished us good luck on our journey.

After the project, a very thick pipeline has to be followed till half way, the water of this pipeline passes through the project and electricity is generated there. As we move ahead through the pipe, we find a goat lamb which was searching for its mother, we get worried and search around for its mother. After some time, the guard of the project comes and takes the lamb with him saying that its mother is in the project itself and this is his goat. We take a sigh of relief and go on our way.

Of course, our bags look very big because of the luggage but we are having a lot of fun in the cool breeze along with the bright sunshine. We have entered the pine forest, we do a little rock climbing on the way. After about one and a half km we come to a small shop where we stop and drink tea. The shop owner is very calm and after making tea, he goes back to his place and lies down and turns on the radio and starts listening to songs.

So, completing all the adventures, we reach Tattwani at three in the afternoon. There is an empty hut here in which we keep our luggage, we are going to sleep in this hut tonight. Let us have lunch after keeping the bag which we have brought with us from below. After lunch, I get into the hot water pool. Let me tell you an amazing thing, there is almost no sulfur in this water. I sit in the pool from afternoon till evening, I never thought that sitting in hot water would be so amazing.

Coming out of the hot water pond, we collect dry wood for the night. It is now 6 o'clock in the evening and the sun has set. We have lit a fire inside the hut and played music on the mobile. We make tea over the fire and heat the food we brought with us and eat it. It is cold outside and very hot inside. I still feel that let's go and sit in a hot water pond. But my friends refused...they said that they will sleep now, they are feeling sleepy. So this way our day ended and we got into the sleeping bag at 10 pm and slept.

The next morning I open my eyes at 6 o'clock, by now the sun has come outside. I slept very well and warm at night, did not feel cold at all. In the morning we made tea and heated the parathas and ate them. By 7 o'clock we again came to the hot water pond. After sitting in the hot water for two hours, I did a little rock climbing. At 12 noon we decided to return. All the luggage packed and at 12:30 we leave on foot from Tattwani for Deol village. Now that we have descended, it did not take much time to reach the village.

At two o'clock we reached Deol village where we waited for the bus for an hour. The bus dropped us at Baijnath where we eat potato tikkis and from here take a bus to Beed and come home. In this way our amazing journey comes to an end. I hope you liked this journey, see you in the next blog, till then stay healthy and keep laughing.

That hot spring looks like a lovely place to take a break. It’s amazing what nature can bring us.

what a beautiful place indeed! The green grass around is awesome plus your trekking adventure seems difficult. It's fulfilling to reach your destinations and immerse in nature.

Nature is such a place where everyone finds shelter, whenever I go and see the mountains, I feel as if life is so simple and fun.

True. Nature truly amazes everyone.
