Kumano Kodo, pilgrimage routes in Japan, Wakayama

in Pinmapple3 years ago

Kumano Kodo, a pilgrimage trail runs through the southwest area in Japan. The Kodo which means the old paths in Japanese have been in use for over 1000 years.
They are the only pilgrimage routes besides the Camino de Santiago to be designated a world heritage site.

Our first began with a three hours flight to Kansai Airport.

The Kumano Kodo is a collection of old pilgrimage pathways that lead to the Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine, a powerful Shinto shrine in Wakayama Prefecture's mountainous center. Hongu Taisha is the most important of the Kumano Sanzan's three notable shrines. The other two, Kumano Nachi Taisha and Kumano Hayatama Taisha, are both located near Wakayama's eastern shore and are known for their connoisseurship.
This time we decided to start our journey from Nachi station, walk through Nakahechi.

This is where we began our journey.

The weather was bad for our first day, but it turned better for the following days of our trip.

The forests and mountains in Japan are really beautiful and spectacular.

You will feel really peaceful while walking through the old path.
The only thing you can hear is the gentle singing of mother nature.
If you like to be surrounded by nature, then there may be a good choice.

Hope you like my sharing.
