An Architectural Masterpiece amidst Rocks and History

Dear friends of this wonderful community,

Today, honestly, I didn't have a specific topic to share, but I'd like to talk to you about a place that I've probably mentioned before. It's a beautiful sanctuary located in the municipality of Ferrara di Monte Baldo, in the province of Verona, between the city of Verona and the lake. This Catholic sanctuary is practically nestled in the rocks, about seven hundred meters sheer above the Adige valley. Personally, I find this place particularly fascinating, and soon, as soon as the weather is more favorable, as I believe this place is splendid to visit in spring or autumn, I will make a video that I will share on my YouTube channel. I've been there several times, but each time there's something new to see.

The photos you are seeing were taken a few years ago, and I must say that the place is always very evocative, also offering a breathtaking panorama. The history of this sanctuary dates back to the sixteenth century when it is said that a shepherd grazing his flock in these areas found a painting of the Virgin Mary in a cave. This painting was then placed in the small chapel built right there by the villagers. Over the years, the sanctuary has been expanded and renovated to become the current church, becoming over time a destination for visits even by some Popes, including the late John Paul II, but every year by numerous pilgrims.

I believe that places like this should be visited, regardless of religious beliefs, precisely because from an architectural point of view, they represent something extraordinary. The construction of this church under the rock is a scenic masterpiece, and in any case, there are two ways to reach it: one on foot, with a walk of about a mile and a half from the parking lot above, and another more challenging path that starts from the valley and is not recommended for everyone. During peak pilgrimage periods, a bus service is available from the village of Spiazzi, offering a more comfortable option for those who cannot walk, and even this bus goes all the way to Lake Garda.
