Today, I’m thrilled to invite you to two art exhibitions titled "The Eye of the Cyclone" and "Remembrances", held at the Raúl Martínez and Leo D’ Lázaro galleries in Old Havana, Cuba 🇨🇺. The exhibitions will feature paintings, crafts, scale models, and many unique pieces by different creators. I hope you enjoy the artworks and appreciate each of these artistic designs.

¡Hola viajeros de la comunidad @worldmappin!
Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a dos exposiciones de arte denominadas "El ojo del Ciclón" y "Remembranzas", ubicadas en la galería Raúl Martínez y Leo D’ Lázaro de la ciudad Habana Vieja, Cuba 🇨🇺. Estarán presente pinturas, artesanía, maquetarías y muchos objetos de diferentes creadores. Espero les gusten las obras y disfruten cada uno de esto diseños artísticos.

The Eye of the Cyclone is a space where art meets life, where walls whisper stories and doors open to encounters between creative souls.
Here, the workshop, the gallery, and the meeting point blend into one. Every exhibition, every event, is a portal to a boundless universe—inviting dance, music, and visual arts to converse with the wind and time.
El ojo del Ciclón es un espacio donde el arte se encuentra con la vida, donde las paredes susurran historias y las puertas se abren al encuentro de las almas creativas.
En el lugar, el taller, la galería y el punto de encuentro se funden. Cada exposición, cada evento, es un portal hacia un universo sin fronteras, que invita a la danza, la música y las artes visuales a dialogar con el viento y el tiempo.
At first glance, everything feels strikingly original, unique, and abstract. For now, it all leaves a powerful impression—most of the works are crafted from discarded objects, transformed into new meaning for the viewer.
These paintings each carry deep significance and their own distinct message. They suggest an intimate, structural exploration of a personal universe, where every "corner" might represent a dimension of identity, memory, or the artist’s perception.
A primera vista, todo es muy original, único y abstracto. De momento todo impresiona, pues las obras en su mayoría son de objetos desechados y llevados a un nuevo significado para el visitante.
Todas estas pinturas tienen gran sentido y mensaje propio, sugiere una exploración íntima y estructural de un universo personal, donde cada “esquina” podría representar una dimensión de la identidad, del recuerdo o de la percepción del artista.
Would you believe they even had a foosball table? (laughs)– framed and reimagined through the creator's visionary lens. As strange as it looked, believe it or not, it worked exactly as presented!
D’Lázaro’s work and the exhibitions in this space aim to rescue objects and memories, transforming them into pieces that challenge the viewer’s perception. Many delve into contemporary archaeology breathing new life into forgotten fragments of the past.
Como pueden ver hasta un futbolito de mesa había jjj, enmarcado y llevado a la interpretación del creador, con su manera de diseñarlo. Aunque no lo crean, funcionaba así raro como se notaba.
La obra de D’Lázaro y las exposiciones presentadas en el espacio buscan rescatar objetos y memorias, transformándolos en piezas que desafían la percepción del espectador.
Muchas en arqueología contemporánea.
This next sculpture honors Eusebio Leal, Havana's most distinguished historian—one of Cuba's 🇨🇺 greatest figures and a monumental personality in history itself. The second piece features a bust of José Martí, apostle to all Cubans, rendered with striking contemporary craftsmanship.
The Eye of the Cyclone is defined by its unique creative process. Here, creation never sleeps—the space thrives around the clock with wide-open doors, inviting everyone to observe and participate in the artistic process in myriad ways.
La siguiente escultura es de nuestro más grande historiador de La Habana "Eusebio Leal", una de las más grandes personalidades en Cuba 🇨🇺 e Historia en general. Y la segunda un busto del apóstol de todos los cubanos José Martí, también con una elaboración moderna.
El ojo del ciclón está caracterizado por su forma de crear, ya que lo hace durante todo el día y la noche con grandes puertas abiertas donde todos pueden entrar para observar y participar de distintos modos en la creación.
The studio is your home here. Visitors can grab a book or magazine and relax on the swing, climb up to the barbecue area to watch the artist paint, or strike up a conversation with them—or with any "Cyclone regular" passing through, since everyone here is spontaneous and warm. You might even wander into their bedroom, workshop, or makeshift gym. Absolute madness!
El estudio es su casa, el visitante puede agarrar un libro, una revista y sentarse en el columpio, subir a la barbacoa y ver al artista pintando o conversar con él (o con cualquier ciclonero que esté de paso porque allí la gente es espontánea y afable), o entrar a su cuarto, a su taller, a su gimnasio improvisado. Todo una locura !!!
The artist calls his work 'Archaeology of the Present' - a process of artificially aging even the newest, most contemporary items to the point of fossilization, creating a deeper perspective on the world around us.
The entire home had been transformed into art: suitcases, paintings, clocks, rocks, books, lamps, chairs, the bed, even the walls - an endless array of objects reborn.
El artista llama a su arte "Arqueología del presente", que consiste en envejecer hasta el punto de fosilizar todo lo muy nuevo, lo muy actual, para crear una visión mas profunda de lo que nos rodea.
Es que todo el hogar, era cambiado a obras, sus maletas, cuadros, reloj, rocas, libros, lámparas, sillas, cama, paredes, un sin fin de objetos.
Before leaving, I snapped this photo of the studio's banner featuring the address of his sculptural work 'Sancho Panza' - a piece he personally designed.
On my way out, I stopped to properly observe it and take more photos. The sculpture stands impressively tall and wildly creative - truly original, earning its title as 'Havana's Sancho'.
Ya en la parte final, realice esta foto a la pancarta que estaba en el estudio, con la dirección de está escultura Sancho Panza, estructurada por él.
Saliendo fui a observarla y hacerle foto. Es bastante alta y creativa, muy original nombrado el Sancho de La habana.
This second gallery space features the collective exhibition "Remembrances", where artisans showcase a multitude of techniques along with the exceptional quality and originality of their creations.
This gathering of creators also facilitates compelling dialogues between the distinctive applied techniques and their artistic effects - essentially making visible the creative processes, shared knowledge, and public statements about the current state of the craft.
Esta segunda parte de la galería viene dada por una exposición colectiva "Remembranzas", donde los artesanos expresan infinidad de técnicas, así como la calidad u originalidad con que fueron creadas las piezas.
Este encuentro de creadores posibilita también confrontaciones entre las particularidades de las técnicas aplicadas, y sus efectos, para el logro de la obra; es decir, proporciona la visibilidad de quehaceres, enseñanzas, así como declaraciones públicas sobre los niveles en que se halla el oficio.
Among my favorites was this exquisite wooden house crafted from precious timber - an absolute luxury to behold. Every interior detail mesmerizes: the hand-carved chairs, canopy bed, artisanal lamps, ornate doors and windows, vaulted ceiling, and even the intricate internal staircases.
De mis favoritas fue esta casa desarrollada con madera preciosa, es un lujo ver cada detalle por dentro sus sillas, cama, lámpara, puertas, ventanas, techo y hasta escaleras internas.
In wood marquetry, we discovered this meticulously crafted vintage car—a piece that shines for its artisanal value and intricate assembly complexity.
The master woodworkers reaffirm their status as national pioneers through both their remarkable creations in this narrative process and their relentless exploration of craftwork’s deeper meaning.
En marquetería en madera encontramos este auto antiguo con mucha dedicación. La pieza destaca por su valor artesanal y su complejidad de ensamblaje.
Los hacedores de talla en madera, reafirman, su condición de vanguardia nacional, gracias a notables creaciones durante el proceso narrativo; y constante indagación, sobre los contenidos de la obra artesanal.
The exhibition abounds with wood carvings, mixed-media pieces, leatherwork, and ceramics—each a testament to masterful craftsmanship.
Son muchas las obras de talla en madera, misceláneas, piel y cerámica.
Among the most striking exhibits are the wood-burned engravings—delicate interplay of shadows and fine lines creating mesmerizing depth, particularly in the raccoon and owl pieces.
Otras de las exhibiciones más impresionantes son los pirograbados en madera, un trabajo de sombras y líneas finas que crea una profundidad visual interesante con el mapache y el búho.
For the finale, I encountered a collection of dark wood carvings—elongated, expressive faces and figures embodying African religious traditions. These sculptures pulse with cultural roots, ancestral rites, and the enduring identity of communities.
Para el final deje un conjunto de figuras talladas en madera oscura que representan rostros y cuerpos con rasgos alargados y expresivos, de religiones africanas. Estas esculturas evocan raíces culturales profundas, ritos ancestrales y la identidad de los pueblos.
Final Thoughts, We hope these exhibitions inspire more people to explore the world of artisan crafts and appreciate the beauty of these unique creations!

Such beautiful designs are not usually seen. I found the most difficult ones to make, which are carved from stone or cement. These works are very delicate and it seems like the experience of seeing them in real life would be quite unforgettable.

Te diré que yo ni sabía que ese estudio existía, pero de comino buscando un restaurante que quedaba cerca, lo vi y entre. Por dentro es algo nuevo que nunca había visto esto es arte, que buena imaginación tiene el artista Lázaro, bueno su casa es arte puro jjj.
