Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!
Today, on the 3rd Sunday of November, I have the pleasure of inviting you to discover and explore the south of my city, Ciego de Ávila. I will show you everything from its heritage styles, landscapes, layouts, and the natural ambiance of its streets, to various central locations, colonial buildings of great value, the main hospital, the bus terminal, and artistic works throughout the midday.
I hope you like the public avenues and enjoy each of these landscapes and buildings. Join me on this wonderful tour 😉!

As I mentioned before, my Ciego de Ávila is a modern city, although the historic center still features many elements of the typical colonial architecture of the region. Horse-drawn carriages for urban transport still exist here.
This is the area around the Bus Terminal, where there is a constant flow of cars and buses throughout the day, transporting people to other provinces in Cuba.
As you can see, it's an environment with relatively low economic development, but with a strong desire to move forward and advance in vehicle technology.

Beginning the walk towards the south of Avila, you can see people calmly crossing the avenues to head home or unwind on the last day of the week. This park is a place to catch a bicitaxi or a car, both in the morning and afternoon, to go up to the town center.
This main street leads directly to the hospital, where I was a month ago after being infected with the chikungunya virus, and today I am in the recovery phase.

This "Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola" General Provincial Hospital is a vitally important institution in the city. It is where the most complex and serious cases referred from the polyclinics throughout the Ciego de Ávila region are treated.
As you can see, it has a striking green color and is an example of the Neo-colonial architecture that was developed on the island during the first half of the 20th century.

Then I continue on to reach the heart of the city, where the boulevard I love to visit is located. It runs along the commercial center of "Independencia" Street and is designed with modern stylistic elements and existing heritage features, characterized by an eclectic architecture.
It features interesting buildings, Martí Park, commercial shops, and important cultural spaces used for the Book Fair and political events.

These two historic structures are landmarks of the city: the San Eugenio de la Palma Cathedral, an example of modern architecture inspired by Rationalism, and the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A., which is the sole provider of telephone and internet services on the island—a state monopoly.

Very close, on one side of ETECSA, is the Teatro Principal, known as the Avileño Coliseum, which was restored this past July 26th and is now 98 years old. It was built in 1927, has a Grade 1 protection status, and is a local monument.
Among these mentioned treasures, at the end, is the Santiago-Habana hotel with its extravagant orange colors.

This Hotel Santiago-Habana is also located in the historic center, where you can appreciate the colonial architecture and the grand city of porticoes. It still maintains the simplicity and comfort that made it popular since its opening in 1957.
Its rooms are equipped with everything necessary for tourists to feel comfortable and enjoy a tranquil atmosphere. Additionally, there is a "Caribe" cafeteria where you can enjoy refreshing tropical drinks and listen to lively music.

In the same southern area, all along the central highway, there are abundant modern and old houses with pleasant architecture and green gardens, mostly featuring palm trees.
These photographs depict a calm city, with clear streets and the slow pace typical of a Sunday, even though the sky was partially cloudy in some areas.

I stopped at this old church. By its appearance, it seems to have been abandoned or out of use for several years, most likely since the COVID-19 era. Although I couldn't quite make out its official name, you can appreciate its Neo-Gothic style, which is somewhat different from the other religious constructions in the city.
From my lens, its state of preservation shows rusty railings, an unmaintained garden with overgrown weeds, and its paint is deteriorated with moisture stains.

Some of these homes are rented to locals or foreign tourists wishing to get to know the city of Ciego de Ávila. Also, the fraternal Lodge "Acacia No. 54" – let me share a bit of Masonic history with you, as these lodges have played a crucial role in shaping Cuban identity. They represent the immortality of the soul, innocence, and resurrection.
As you can see, it's a long, expansive street with sidewalks that leads directly to the zoo.

These are the surroundings of the provincial zoo. Although it isn't very large, it carries out a range of actions to preserve, conserve, and protect species in captivity, as well as the local flora and environment.
The bridge crossing the street leads to the activity area for the little ones, with interactive games, shows, and clowns. In front, there's a park for lovers, with its swings, inviting couples to come, get to know each other, and exchange glances.

Next, I present to you this Methodist church that caught my attention because of its architecture. The building looks great and very modern. According to the locals, it is a Protestant Christian congregation, founded in the 19th century primarily by American missionaries.
As you probably know, it is dedicated to supporting people in need, aiding the regional community, providing evangelical education, and organizing activities for youth and families.

To conclude, I'll tell you that these next establishments, which haven't opened yet, are called "Oasis" due to the abundance of cacti and desert species planted here. It's a dining center that will be dedicated to drinks, dancing, and spending a pleasant time with family.
The design is very natural and original on the part of the creator. With structures made of precious woods, it captures the attention of everyone who passes by the place.

To conclude, there are government and administrative buildings very close to my home. This area is called Vista Hermosa, and the images tell the whole story.
Well, the next bright green building features a large mural promoting positive messages: "A better world is possible," which reflects the presence of urban art in the city of Ciego de Ávila.
