Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!
Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to get to know and walk the streets of the province of Ciego de Ávila. We'll explore its urban planning styles, landscapes, and the natural environment of the local Avileño people. I will also take you on a tour of various central locations like the Boulevard, colonial buildings, daily life, and artistic spaces until sunset 🌅.
I hope you like the streets and enjoy each one of these urban and architectural designs. Join me on this wonderful tour 😉

I always appreciate these walks at the end of the day. My Ciego de Ávila is a modern city, yet in the historic center, many features of the typical colonial architecture of the region still stand out. There are still horse-drawn carriages for urban transport, bicycle taxis, and many electric motorcycles.
As you can see, it's an environment with very little economic development, but with good people and a desire to get ahead. Right now, the city is deserted due to the chikungunya virus epidemic, transmitted by infected mosquitoes. It's a disease that causes headaches and muscle pains—I'm telling you because I'm going through it myself, and I've had joint pain for 17 days now.

Beginning the walk, you can see people strolling calmly as they cross the avenues to head to their homes. This central park transforms into a skating rink for children and teenagers seeking high-adrenaline challenges.
It has also always served as a place to exchange glances and gestures among passersby, for couples to meet and form lifelong bonds, or to rest while waiting for transportation, both in the morning and the evening.

Entering the boulevard that I love to visit so much, nestled along the commercial center of "Independencia" Street and designed with modern-style elements alongside existing heritage features, it is characterized by an eclectic architecture.
It features interesting sculptures, galleries, shops, and important cultural venues, such as the Book Fair held in this space.

The previous photo, where you can see the flags, is where my shop is located. I spend most of my day there; it's a space where the friendship among the workers is very pleasant.
This part of the boulevard also includes surrounding facilities like the "Piña Colada" disco, restaurants, light food cafeterias, a Crafts Workshop and commercial credit banks.

This final section of the boulevard features vibrant, eye-catching colors, along with a fountain and its bridge, making it ideal for taking photos while passing through.
Truthfully, it's an area that includes Pharmacies, Fraternal Associations, and a Colonial restaurant with its very tasty Spanish offerings.

The most eccentric and iconic building in the city is the Hotel Rueda, featuring an eclectic architectural style and located in a structure dating back to 1920. Inside, it boasts a spacious lobby, along with furniture, rooms, and antique decorations, each filled with stories and memories.
Leaving this first tour, I encountered a group of students who were just leaving a study session, likely for an exam or to work on school assignments.

Seeking out the more rural parts of the city, I walked along the entire train avenue. This park is where you catch the railway transport to municipal towns in the Avileña province. Its statues are dedicated to Cuban radio broadcasting, serving as a commemorative space for dates related to the radio station.

When the sun sets, it's like watching the city shed the noise of the day and clothe itself in a spectacular golden light, perfect for taking photographs, like the one of the Máximo Gómez statue in this central park with its 9-story buildings.
Further ahead, there's a square named Camilo Cienfuegos, designed for revolutionary events on the island, such as marches, festivals, and political acts. It's well-maintained with its green gardens.

In almost all the places you'll see around here, if you notice, there are many Royal Palms—some newly planted and others protected as heritage, since, if you didn't know, it's a national symbol of Cuba.
These squares are embraced by soccer fans; as you can see, many are practicing this global sport. As you pass by, you can hear shouts of "Pass the ball!" and even debates over who's the best, lol. Their gardens are very beautiful, and at the end of the square, there’s one dedicated to the workers' marches on May 1st, with its Party building alongside.

As I was leaving, the end of the sunset became apparent, but for me, the best photo opportunities were yet to come: a great ceiba tree glowing in the sunlight, some beautiful mushrooms I found along the path, and a classic car resting beneath the trees. This was, without a doubt, my favorite part of the walk.

Blind from Avila at dusk is not just a place; it's a slow sigh of little traffic, a golden poem painted between parks and avenues, between history and nature. Walking through it at this hour is a reminder that even in the daily routine, there is beauty waiting to be found.

The last hidden park I will present is located in a traffic circle, a space between several streets that is traversed by thousands of cars each day. You can see that it is well-maintained for the public who wish to rest and enjoy the pleasant breeze up there.
A place that invites you to slowly watch a beautiful sunset and let the light stay with you a little longer amidst spectacular landscaping.

The more palm trees and lakes I see, the more I feel myself returning home, yet always ending up with photos that the journey shows me. I’ll explore this place with you in more detail in upcoming posts. It’s called "La Turbina", a great spot to spend time, fish, chat, and uncover a mysterious story.
In fact, at this time of day, this boardwalk becomes a place to meditate and relax from the stress of the day.

To conclude, I'll tell you that I love these evening walks as the sun goes down, photographing my city, and showing you through my lens a little piece of my island. Besides, it's always good for my health, especially since I was sick for several days and am now in recovery.

Every picture makes me say, "Wow!" I like every picture I scroll by! 😻 You have a beautiful city; it's one of the best places to visit, and the weather is perfect for this long walk. I'm sure you got tired of it, too, hehe, but it was all worthwhile because you visited such a beautiful place.
In our country we call it Dengue.
Thank you so much, @crstypatata, for your support! Yes, the city at sunset 🌅 is really beautiful. I always look for these golden sunny days to go for a walk and take nice pictures. Plus, it's good for your health and helps you de-stress from the daily grind.
It's a shame that the virus is spreading so much in the city, and walking is a bit difficult because of the muscle pains it causes. But oh well, I tried to capture the best of the walk.
Dengue is also present here; it's another illness that is very common among the population. Greetings, my friend, and have a super lovely day!! 🤗☺️🙏🏻

Such a lovely and detailed walk through Ciego de Ávila! 🌅
Your photos beautifully capture the soul of the city — its colors, colonial charm, and that peaceful golden light at sunset. I really enjoyed how you mixed daily life with history and personal reflections; it felt like walking right beside you through every street. 🇨🇺✨
I have family in Cuba who have always told me about this city as very colorful and with magnificent architecture, just like I see in your photographs.
Mi provincia la más bella❤️
Se ve bello ese cielo. Despejado y nublado ☁️🌥
Thanks you 😉🤝!
