Today, I have the pleasure of inviting you to the opening of a collective exhibition dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Advisory Council for the Development of Monumental and Environmental Sculpture (CODEMA) at the "Eduardo Martínez" gallery in the city of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. This initiative is part of events happening in all provinces across the country, which, as its name suggests, will be responsible for safeguarding the value of national sculptural art. I hope you enjoy the works and appreciate each of these artistic designs.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a la inauguración de una exposición colectiva dedicada al aniversario 40 del Consejo Asesor para el Desarrollo de la Escultura Monumentaria y Ambiental (CODEMA) en la galería "Eduardo Martínez" de la ciudad Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. Esta acción se suma a todas las provincias del país, donde como bien dice su nombre será encargado de garantizar la valía escultórica nacional. Espero les gusten las obras y disfruten cada uno de esto diseños artísticos.

On my way to the art exhibitions, I took several photographs of my neighborhood and the streets leading to the gallery, all on an ordinary day with people passing by on their way to work or their homes.
The exhibition you will see consists of more than 15 works and will remain on display until January, as part of the cultural activities in the province, where artisans express a wide range of techniques, as well as the quality and originality with which the pieces were created.
De camino a las exhibiciones de arte, pues realice varias tomas fotográficas de mi barrio y las calles para llegar a la galería, todas de un día normal por el paso de personas hacia los trabajos o sus hogares.
La muestra que observarán está conformada por más de 15 obras y permanecerá expuesta hasta enero, como parte de las actividades culturales en la provincia, donde los artesanos expresan infinidad de técnicas, así como la calidad u originalidad con que fueron creadas las piezas.
I always appreciate this short walk to the galleries, as you encounter everything from horse-drawn carriages for urban city transport, bicycle taxis, as well as parked classic Russian cars from the 90s.
This first route was alongside the Hospital, a neocolonial green structure that occupies the entire block, serving as an essential identity landmark in the area.
Siempre aprecio este mínimo recorrido para llegar a las galerías, pues encuentras desde coches a caballos para el transporte urbano de la ciudad, bicitaxis, así como autos clásicos rusos de los años 90 estacionados.
Esta primera ruta fue al costado del Hospital, una estructura de color verde neocolonial que ocupa toda la redonda de calles, siendo atributo esencial de identidad en el territorio.
As you walk further, the traffic is calm and allows you to enjoy every detail of the surroundings. The left side of the area is still under repair and construction, with no known completion date.
As you can see, it is an environment with very little economic development, yet filled with good people and a strong desire to move forward.
A medida que avanzas, el tránsito es tranquilo y permite disfrutar cada detalle del entorno. La zona izquierda aún está en reparación y construcción, no se sabe su fecha final.
Como se observa es un ambiente de muy poco desarrollo económico, pero con buenas personas y ganas de salir delante.
Continuing the walk, I move through quieter neighborhoods, deserted due to the midday hour, as the sun grows a bit stronger and warmer.
The rhythm of Avileño life is felt with every step, in every lengthening shadow, in every face that passes by, leaving behind a glimpse of everyday history.
Siguiendo la caminata, me traslado por barrios más tranquilos, desolados por el horario de medio día, pues el sol se presenta un poco más fuerte y cálido.
El ritmo avileño se siente en cada paso, en cada sombra que se alarga, en cada rostro que pasa dejando atrás un destello de historia cotidiana.
Just three blocks away, I'll tell you that the artisans from the various sections submitted samples of their work to the contest, thanks to the sense of belonging they feel towards these events.
As you approach the exhibition building, you recognize it by its elegant facade, with white columns and walls in shades of pink. Several visitors come and go, cameras in hand and ready to explore the national sculptural exhibition.
A solo tres calles, les comentaré que los artesanos de las distintas secciones entregaron muestras de su labor al certamen, gracias al sentido de pertenencia que en ellos habita ante estos eventos.
Al acercarte al edificio de la exposición, se reconoce por su fachada elegante, de columnas blancas y paredes en tonos rosados. Varios visitantes entran y salen, con cámara en mano y listos para descubrir la muestra escultórica nacional.
Upon entering, you'll notice the space is carefully organized, with works placed on white pedestals that highlight the texture and design of each artistic piece.
This exhibition emphasizes multidisciplinary teamwork: architects, engineers, sculptors, and art specialists among them. In other words, from its inception, it has aimed to plan and execute sculptural projects for the performance of CODEMA.
Al entrar, notarán que el espacio está cuidadosamente organizado, con obras colocadas sobre pedestales blancos que resaltan la textura y diseño de cada pieza artística.
Esta exposición enfatiza el trabajo en equipo multidisciplinario: arquitectos, ingenieros, entre ellos, escultores, especialistas de arte, o sea, desde entonces intenciona y despliega la concreción de proyectos escultóricos para el desempeño del CODEMA.
The space features works created by members of the Cuban Association of Artisan Artists (ACAA), which demonstrates their professional growth. Their continuous pursuit of knowledge and training has enriched their creative possibilities. Despite the small size of the sculptural exhibition, most artists presented more than one quality piece.
El espacio propone obras creadas por miembros de la Asociación Cubana de Artesanos Artistas (ACAA), lo cual demuestra el crecimiento profesional de estos, porque la constante búsqueda y capacitación han posibilitado el enriquecimiento de sus posibilidades creativas. A pesar de la reducida muestra escultórica, la mayoría de los artistas exhibió más de una obra de calidad.
In broad terms, the exhibitors have become creators of pieces that carry significant concepts, which are conveyed through the frameworks and codes of three-dimensional artistic expression.
Regarding the artistic language and the techno-formal resources used to create the works, it is notable that some artists focus on well-established artistic solutions, while attempting to infuse them with originality.
A grandes rasgos, los expositores se han convertido en creadores de piezas portadoras de importantes conceptos, los cuales son transmitidos a través de los presupuestos y códigos de la manifestación artística tridimensional.
Respecto al lenguaje artístico y los recursos tecnoformales utilizados para la obtención de la obra, atrae la concentración de algunos exponentes en reconocidísimas soluciones artísticas, aunque con intentos de impregnarlas de originalidad.
Papier-mâché appeared with "The Path of the Monks" and "The Monk's Secrets" by Florencio Tornos Reyes, whose technical mastery and unique style are evident in both content and form.
The piece, of a mystical and esoteric nature, showcases a solid, triangular composition that is firmly anchored to its base. Furthermore, the paint finish, which simulates metal, conceals the inherent texture of the papier-mâché, resulting in an almost museum-quality object.
El papel maché apareció con El camino de los monjes y Los secretos del monje, de la autoría de Florencio Tornos Reyes, cuyo dominio técnico y estilo propio se manifiestan tanto en contenido como en formas únicas.
La pieza de índole mística y esotérica, hace gala de una composición sólida, triangular, y que se reafirma sobre su base. Además, con el acabado en pintura que simula metal, se esconde la textura propia del papier y se consigue, así, un objeto casi museable.
Of the parts or components of what were once objects with specific uses in the past (scrap), once recycled, geometric relationships are invented in which the circular predominates; these forms also contain various finishes and texture qualities, becoming an attractive sculptural proposition.
Another inspiration prompts additions of explorations in metal, that is, the formation of figurations interpreting animal existence emerges, studies of physiognomy, movements; among these, a Trojan Horse made with cutlery.

Con las partes o componentes de lo que fueron objetos con usos específicos en el pasado (chatarra), una vez reciclados, se inventa relaciones geométricas en las cuales predomina la circular; estas formas también contienen varias terminaciones y calidades de texturas, devienen atractiva proposición escultórica.
Otra inspiración provoca añadiduras de exploraciones en metal, es decir, aparece la conformación de figuraciones interpretando la existencia animal, estudios de la fisonomía, movimientos; de entre ello Un Caballo de Troya hecho con cubiertos.
