Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!
Today, I have the pleasure of inviting you to the opening of the 25th "Eduardo Martínez" Crafts Fair at the Raúl Martínez Gallery in the city of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. It was inaugurated this past Saturday, November 1st, by the Cuban Association of Artist Artisans (ACAA), which is dedicated to awarding prizes to the best creators. I hope you like the works and enjoy each one of these artistic designs.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a la apertura del XXV Salón de Artesanía "Eduardo Martínez" en la galería Raúl Martínez de la ciudad Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. Fue inaugurada el pasado sábado 1 de noviembre por el Asociación Cubana de Artesanos Artistas (ACAA), dedicado a otorgar premios a los mejores creadores. Espero les gusten las obras y disfruten cada uno de esto diseños artísticos.

On my way to the art exhibitions, I took several photographs of my neighborhood and the streets leading to the gallery. They all depict a typical day with people heading to work or home, old buildings, and a spectacular blue sky.
The exhibition you are about to see features more than 20 works and will be on display throughout November as part of the cultural activities in the province. The artisans showcase a variety of techniques, as well as the quality and originality with which the pieces were created.
De camino a las exhibiciones de arte, pues realice varias tomas fotográficas de mi barrio y las calles para llegar a la galería, todas de un día normal por el paso de personas hacia los trabajos o sus hogares, edificaciones antiguas y un cielo azul espectacular.
La muestra que observarán está conformada por más de 20 obras y permanecerá expuesta todo el mes de noviembre como parte de las actividades culturales en la provincia, donde los artesanos expresan infinidad de técnicas, así como la calidad u originalidad con que fueron creadas las piezas.
I always appreciate these walks in the moment; they get me out of my routine and allow me to exchange glances with my city. This historic center features colonial architectural traits typical of the region, with its bicycles and cars at the avenue intersections.
As you can see, it's an environment with very little economic development, but with good people and a desire to get ahead.
Siempre aprecio estas caminatas por momentos, salgo de la rutina e intercambio miradas de mi ciudad, este casco histórico es de rasgos arquitectónicos coloniales típicos de la región, con sus bicicletas y autos en los cruces de avenidas.
Como se observa es un ambiente de muy poco desarrollo económico, pero con buenas personas y ganas de salir delante.
The entire route to the exhibition passes by old houses, a Baptist church, porches with interesting history behind them, as well as heritage centers and central parks.
Just three blocks away, I should mention that the artisans from different sections submitted samples of their work to the contest, thanks to the sense of belonging they feel towards these events.
Toda la trayectoria para llegar a la exposición es por casas antiguas, iglesia Bautista, portales con una historia detrás interesante, además de centros patrimoniales y parques céntricos.
A solo tres calles, les comentaré que los artesanos de las distintas secciones entregaron muestras de su labor al certamen, gracias al sentido de pertenencia que en ellos habita ante estos eventos.
To begin, you should know that craftsmanship is a tangible manifestation of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It goes beyond the mere creation of objects; it is the representation of techniques, knowledge, and expressions that define a community's identity.
Every piece created by a traditional artist—whether it's a textile, a pottery item, or a precisely carved sculpture—is a story in itself. It tells the history of a people, reflects their values, and preserves ancestral knowledge that might otherwise be lost to time.
Para comenzar, deben saber que la artesanía es una manifestación palpable del Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial. Va más allá de la mera creación de objetos; es la representación de técnicas, conocimientos y expresiones que definen la identidad de una comunidad.
Cada obra realizada por un artista tradicional ya sea un tejido, una cerámica o una escultura tallada con precisión, es un relato en sí misma. Cuenta la historia de un pueblo, refleja sus valores y preserva saberes ancestrales que, de otra manera, podrían perderse en el olvido.
Of the wood carvings, I present to you this chair with African traditions, caravels, and artisanal uprooting. It is a very original design with new experimentations in its themes and techno-formal definitions.
De la talla en madera, les presento esta silla con tradiciones africanas, carabelas y desarraigo artesanal. Es un diseño bien original con nuevas experimentaciones en las temáticas y definiciones tecnoformales.
That is why The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) emphasized in the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Paris, that Traditional Craftsmanship constitutes the most tangible manifestation of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
In this way, it stressed the importance of preserving this ancient craft, which is so relevant in human history, by transmitting the techniques and knowledge used in craft activities to new generations.
Es por ello que La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO) destacó en la Convención para la Salvaguardia del Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial, celebrada en París en el año 2003 que la Artesanía Tradicional, constituye la manifestación más tangible del Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial.
De este modo hizo hincapié en preservar este oficio tan antiguo y de gran relevancia en la historia de la humanidad, mediante la trasmisión de las técnicas y conocimientos empleados en las actividades artesanales a nuevas generaciones.
For these reasons and many more, this event takes place here in my city every year, knowing that through the hands of all the artisans and artists, the spirit of our people speaks.
This is what the work of Eduardo Martínez, one of our most distinguished artisans, whom we have wanted to honor, achieved. Through his work—a testament to patience, dedication, and love—this creator gave his craft to the people of Ciego de Ávila.
Por estos motivos y muchos más es que se da sita aquí en mi ciudad cada año, sabiendo que a través de las manos de todos los artesanos y artistas habla el espíritu de nuestro pueblo.
Así lo hizo la obra de Eduardo Martínez, uno de nuestros más destacados artífices, a quien se a querido homenajear, donde este creador a través de su obra, testimonio de paciencia, dedicación y amor entrego por su oficio a los avileños.
Thanks to the legacy of this man, who taught us that beauty is born from detail, that perfection is achieved with humility, and that true art is that which is made with the heart.
Undoubtedly, the environment of craftsmanship fosters a vocation, as it is a favorable instrument for the advancement of the craft, the development of young people, at-risk populations, and for protecting children from harsh labor and vices. It has an economic purpose, yet it is not devoid of cultural identity.
Gracias al legado de este señor por enseñar que la belleza que nace del detalle, que la perfección se alcanza con humildad, y que el arte verdadero es aquel que se hace con el corazón.
Sin dudas, el entorno de la artesanía condiciona una vocación, pues, resulta favorable como instrumento para el avance artesanal, superación de los jóvenes, las poblaciones en riesgo y para prevenir de los trabajos penosos y vicios a la infancia, con sentido económico, pero no desprovista de la identidad cultural.
These metal sculpture designers express their imagination with metallic materials, generating reflections on the fragility and resilience of bodies. Each piece stands out for its meticulous attention to detail and its ability to convey a significant emotional and conceptual weight.
Estos diseñadores de esculturas en metal expresan su imaginación con materiales metálicos, generando reflexiones sobre fragilidad y resistencia de cuerpos. Cada pieza destaca su meticulosa atención al detalle y por su capacidad para transmitir una carga emocional y conceptual significativa.
This next room exhibits the collateral awards, featuring a female artist and her beautiful plant terrariums and mini-home decorations.
Additionally, there is a spectacular work in ceramics, showcasing exquisite technique that advocates for natural preservation through a pair of pots and vases. The variability in planting and textures gives the work its expressive richness.
Esta siguiente sala, exhibe los premios colaterales, de una artista mujer con sus terrarios de plantas bellas y decoraciones de mini-hogar.
Además de un espectacular trabajo en cerámica y exquisitez de la técnica que aboga por la preservación natural a través de un par de macetas y jarrones, cuya variabilidad de sembrado, y texturas, conceden a la obra riqueza expresiva.
The following works are noteworthy not only for their fine craftsmanship but also for the meticulous assembly of the different types of woodwork, much like a puzzle. The final step involves extracting the piece from the press, which stands out for its aesthetics and the quality of its technique—a significant part of the success lies in the final finish with hard wax.
Las obras a continuación, no solo llaman la atención por su fina elaboración, sino además por el minucioso montaje de los diferentes tipos de artesanal en maderas, como si fuese un puzzle, para finalmente extraer de la prensa una pieza que sobresale por su estética y por la calidad de una técnica en la que el acabado final con cera dura corresponde buena parte del éxito.
Furthermore, in the second-to-last hall, you will find the titled artwork "Bonsai," which captivates with its beauty and vibrancy through the use of colors and special shapes that form the tree along its path, utilizing the Papier-mâché technique. This is art born from the hands of creative demigods, whose imagination transports us to a world of fantasy and dreams, alongside the tiny castle made with mixed marquetry.
Además en el penúltimo salón se ubica la titulada obra de arte "Bonsái" con su hermosura y vivacidad a base de colores y formas especiales que dan forma al árbol con su camino, utilizando la técnica de Papier-mâché. Arte que nace de las manos de demiurgos creadores, con su imaginación que nos adentra a un mundo de fantasía y sueños junto al castillo diminuto de marquetería mixta.
To conclude, I show you religious and traditional works, including a hand-embroidered guayabera with drawn threadwork, where tradition and elegance shine. As something unique, a piece was shared for Oshun, combining sewing and crochet. A parade was held with attire representing the Orishas of the African Yoruba pantheon, bringing them to life through dance.

Al finalizar les muestro obras religiosas y tradicionales con una guayabera bordada a mano y con deshilado, donde luce Tradición y elegancia. Como atipicidad se compartió para Oshún artes , pues se juntan costura y tejido a crochet; realizó un desfile con los atuendos de los orishas del panteón yoruba africano, concediéndoles más vida a través de la danza.
