We didn't originally plan to visit The Grand Canyon, but while on the drive from Monument Valley to Zion National Park we realised how close we were to the South Rim, so ended up taking a detour and stopping in for a couple nights.
We stayed at the Mather Campground and spend one and a half days exploring the South Rim.
The first day was our half day and we spent it visiting all the lookouts accessible by car. The second day, our full day, we took advantage of the free shuttle bus that takes you along the scenic Hermit Road. Cars aren't allowed on this road so the bus is really the only way to see most of the South Rim. There are lots of stops along the way (nine were open while we were there) with lookouts over The Canyon. There is also a walking trail that links all of the bus stops if you feel like walking or cycling all, or part of, the road.
Most of the trails in the South Rim section of the park are flat and/or paved. So if you're not really a fan of hiking you never have to go far for a nice view.
One thing I wish we had time to do was the Bright Angel Trail. A 15.9km (9.9miles) hike with a 1,338m elevation change (4,390ft)! But I guess we have to leave something for next time!
One of the more memorable moments we had while staying at the Grand Canyon was relaxing and drinking cocktails while watching the sunset. The sunsets in this part of the country are just stunning. The Landscape and sky can turn a crazy red colour!
Our unexpected adventure to the Grand Canyon's South Rim was unreal! Although, looking back now, I didn't really take many photos.
Hopefully, if we're ever back this way, we can visit one of the other rims in the park because there is so much more to see! As the name suggests, it really is grand! haha.

when i visited the grand canyon, i described it as "it doesn't look real" and "it looks like a painting"
Yes! I 100% agree. It looks like a painting or the backdrop on a movie set
