Vamos a La Feria (Es-En)

Queridos amigos de @worldmappin, mi pequeña ciudad Las Tunas; está asentada a orillas de la carretera Cental y con vías de acceso directo a Granma, Holguin por la parte Oriental; por la parte Central colinda con Camaguey. Es conocida como El Balcón del Oriente Cubano o Capital de las esculturas.

Y como en Cuba es usual cambiar los nombres de las calles, establecimientos o inmuebles y de las ciudades pues no es raro que Las Tunas se llamara Cuibá, Hato de LasTunas, San Gregorio de Las Tunas, Las Tunas de Bayamo, Victoria de Las Tunas, y para simplificar: Las Tunas.

Pero todo eso está en la historia inacabada de Las Tunas, en realidad quiero acercarlos a un espacio que queda en el tránsito por su carretera Central: La Feria.

Frente a La Feria está ubicada una de las esculturas realizada durante los encuentros de esculturas a finales de la década del 70, su autor es Sergio Calixto Martínez Sopeña. La escultura en metal representa un caballo que cabalga sobre una enorme piedra, esta pieza es también una imagen de referencia en Las Tunas.

Tengo mucho cariño por La Feria, quien haya nacido en esta tierra conocerá muy bien sus múltiples calles interiores porque allí se hacen desde siempre, diversas actividades de tipo comercial, artísticas y culturales. Allí vi por primera vez un león y los ponis.
La Feria es el sitio dónde más pueden palparse las costumbres y tradiciones campesinas cada una de sus naves contenía parte del espíritu guajiro con la exhibición de ejemplares ovinos, caprinos, avícolas y porcinos.

Allí se hacían juegos, mostraban curiosidades de la naturaleza y se disfrutaba de la gastronomía. Mal que bien, se acoplaba a las necesidades primarias de una población no muy exigente pero sí hábida de disfrute.

A la parte trasera se accede por El Sendero, trazado en 1969, para conectar el centro de la Ciudad de Las Tunas con El Cornito, donde cada año y por más de medio siglo, se reúnen los amantes y cultores de las tradiciones guajiras. Alrededor del Sendero hay cientos de viviendas.

El Sendero no es más que un camino, pero amabamos recorrerlo para ir a tomar copelitas a La Feria. Ahora tanto el Sendero como La Feria han perdido un poco de brillo pero siguen siendo sitios emblemáticos. Por más intentos que hagan por cambiar su nombre por Parque 26 de Julio, quien quiera orientarse dice Por La Feria.

La Feria tiene un entorno espectacular, por un lado el rio Hormigo y la fuente de Las Antillas con una vegetación hermosa.

Y del otro el Cabaret El Taíno. En las áreas de La Feria era común disfrutar de grupos musicales como Los Van Van, Los Surik o Caisimú. Ahora cuenta con un cabaret al aire libre, pegado a la ladera del rio y un espacio llamado El Ranchón donde eran frecuentes los matinés bailables.

Quizás una de los hechos más vinculados con La Feria son las actividades asociadas al rodeo. El rodeo le dio a Cuba reconocimientos en el ámbito nacional e internacional, por ello el área de las gradas es de los más conocidos porque en sus bajos se utiliza de espacios para la venta de productos y el pequeño estadio para los vaqueros y amazonas.

El tunero Jorge Barrameda representó este autóctono deporte en los eventos más importantes del país y el extranjero y fue Campeón de floreo en las décadas 1950 y 60.

Let's go to La Feria

Dear friends of @worldmappin, my small city Las Tunas; is settled on the banks of the Central highway and with direct access roads to Granma, Holguin on the Eastern side; on the Central side it borders with Camaguey. It is known as The Balcony of Eastern Cuba or the Capital of Sculptures.

And since in Cuba it is usual to change the names of streets, establishments or properties and of cities, it is not strange that Las Tunas was called Cuibá, Hato de LasTunas, San Gregorio de Las Tunas, Las Tunas de Bayamo, Victoria de Las Tunas, and to simplify: Las Tunas.

But all that is in the unfinished history of Las Tunas, I really want to bring you closer to a space that is located on the transit along its Central highway: La Feria.

In front of La Feria is located one of the sculptures made during the sculpture encounters at the end of the 70s, its author is Sergio Calixto Martínez Sopeña. The metal sculpture represents a horse riding on an enormous rock, this piece is also a reference image in Las Tunas.

I have a lot of affection for La Feria, anyone born in this land will know its multiple interior streets very well because diverse commercial, artistic and cultural activities have always been held there. There I saw a lion and ponies for the first time.
La Feria is the place where peasant customs and traditions can be most felt;each of its halls contained part of the guajiro spirit with the exhibition of ovine, caprine, poultry and porcine specimens.

There, games were played, curiosities of nature were shown, and the gastronomy was enjoyed. For better or worse, it adapted to the primary needs of a population that was not very demanding but eager to enjoy.

The rear part is accessed by El Sendero, laid out in 1969, to connect the center of the City of Las Tunas with El Cornito, where every year for more than half a century, lovers and cultivators of guajiro traditions gather. Around the Sendero there are hundreds of homes.

El Sendero is nothing more than a path, but we loved to walk it to go have a few drinks at La Feria. Now both El Sendero and La Feria have lost a bit of their shine but they remain emblematic sites. No matter how many attempts they make to change its name to Parque 26 de Julio, anyone who wants to get their bearings says Por La Feria.

La Feria has a spectacular environment, on one side the Hormigo river and the Las Antillas fountain with beautiful vegetation.

And on the other side the El Taíno Cabaret. In the areas of La Feria it was common to enjoy musical groups like Los Van Van, Los Surik or Caisimú. Now it has an open-air cabaret, attached to the riverbank, and a space called El Ranchón where dance matinées were frequent.

Perhaps one of the events most linked to La Feria are the activities associated with the rodeo. The rodeo gave Cuba recognition nationally and internationally, which is why the grandstand area is one of the most well-known because its lower part is used as space for product sales and the small stadium for the cowboys and cowgirls.

The tunero Jorge Barrameda represented this autochthonous sport in the most important events in the country and abroad and was Champion of floreo in the 1950s and 60s.
