The Sanctuary of the Christ of Joseph
Venezuela is a country whose catholic roots are very well cemented, it is for this reason that the religious architecture represented in beautiful temples of prayer is usually found in every corner of the national territory, but unlike what we could find in many other countries of Latin America, where the churches of colonial type usually rise in an imposing way in every city, Our past as captaincy general excluded us from the customs and opulences of the old viceroyalties, therefore our culture and architecture tends to tend towards the modern and in many occasions our buildings show us mixed architectural styles, which generate a very interesting visual effect and at the same time become quite curious structures.

Venezuela es un país cuya raíces católicas se encuentra muy bien cimentadas, es por esta razón que la arquitectura religiosa representada en lindos templos de oración suele encontrarse en cada Rincón del territorio nacional, pero a diferencia de lo que podríamos encontrar en muchos otros países de Latinoamérica, en donde las iglesias de tipo colonial suelen elevarse de forma imponente en cada ciudad, convirtiéndose en grandes centros de atención y en verdaderas joyas de la arquitectura española aquí no sucede lo mismo, pues nuestro pasado como capitanía general nos excluyó de las costumbres y las opulencias de los antiguos virreinatos, por lo tanto nuestra cultura y arquitectura suele tender hacia lo moderno y en muchas ocasiones nuestros edificios nos demuestran estilos arquitectónicos mixtos, los cuales generan un efecto visual muy interesante y al mismos tiempo se convierten en estructuras bastante curiosas.
I am convinced that the common citizen tends to like the most modern buildings, this is how many modern style cathedrals are the best known nationally, this explains that the architectural trend is always advancing according to the styles of the moment, which has given us a multiplicity of temples that are always imposing to the eye and incredible inside, showing the world that in Venezuelan Catholic architecture there are no limits to greatness.
Estoy convencido al afirmar que al ciudadano común suelen gustarle las construcciones más actuales, es de esta forma como muchas catedrales de estilo moderno son las más conocidas a nivel nacional, esto explica que la tendencia arquitectónica siempre vaya avanzando conforme a los estilos de cada momento, lo cual nos ha regalado una multiplicidad de templos que siempre suelen ser imponentes a la vista e increíbles en su interior, demostrándole al mundo que en la arquitectura católica venezolana no hay límites para la grandeza.
In my continuous search for iconic places of my country I moved to the east, where after almost an hour of travel along the highway Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho I arrived at a point called Jose, which administratively belongs to the city of Píritu and where we can enjoy a unique chapel made of metal and whose height surely exceeds 40 meters, around this structure and the Christ that is inside there are many stories, To begin with the exact date of its construction is unknown, but what is certain is that it was initially a private chapel built to give thanks for favors received and was originally located on the lands of a fund called Jose, but due to the construction of the Cryogenic Complex of Oriente it was moved to the current site, which is located approximately 35 km from the city of Barcelona, capital of Anzoátegui state.
En mi continua búsqueda por lugares icónicos de mi país me desplacé hacia el oriente, en donde después de casi una hora de viaje por la autopista gran Mariscal de Ayacucho llegué un punto denominado Jose, el cual administrativamente pertenece a la ciudad de Píritu y en dónde podemos disfrutar de una singular capilla elaborada en metal y cuya altura seguramente sobrepasa los 40 metros, en torno a esta estructura y al Cristo que se encuentra en su interior existen numerosas historias, para empezar se desconoce la fecha exacta de su construcción, pero de lo que sí es seguro es que se trataba inicialmente de una capilla privada elaborada para dar gracias por los favores recibidos y originalmente se encontraba en las tierras de un fondo denominado Jose, pero debido a la construcción del Complejo Criogénico de Oriente la misma fue movida para el sitio actual, el cual se encuentra aproximadamente a 35 km de la ciudad de Barcelona, capital del estado Anzoátegui.
The diocesan sanctuary of the Christ of Jose, is constituted in a small open basilica, adorned by multiple luminaries and small stained glass windows with blue tones, in its interior since mid-1992 is the realistic figure of a Christ, which stands out for its perfect muscular features and real size, as with the rest of the complex is not known with that attitude the origin of this image, There are stories that say that it comes from a colonial temple located in one of the nearby towns, others say that it comes from Mexico because it was bought from that country but I think the most interesting story is the one that says that the descendants of the brothers José Tadeo Monagas and José Gregorio Monagas, who were presidents of Venezuela and leaders of the Federal War, who for some unknown reason took the image to that place.
El santuario diocesano del Cristo de Jose, se constituye en una pequeña basílica abierta, adornada por múltiples luminarias y pequeños vitrales con tonos azules, en su interior desde mediados del año 1992 se encuentra la figura realista de un Cristo, el cual se destaca por sus perfectas facciones musculares y tamaño real, al igual que con el resto del complejo no se sabe con esa actitud la procedencia de esta imagen, ya que existen historias que cuentan que la misma proviene de un templo colonial ubicado en alguno de los pueblos cercanos, otros comentan que la misma proviene de México ya que fue comprada a ese país pero creo que el relato más interesante es aquel que afirma que fueron los descendientes de los hermanos José Tadeo Monagas y José Gregorio Monagas, quiénes fueron presidentes de Venezuela y Caudillos de la guerra Federal, los que por alguna razón desconocida llevaron la imagen hasta ese lugar.
The truth is that in popular culture it does not matter much where the image comes from, what everyone agrees on is that it is a Miraculous Christ, which usually protects travelers and tourists from the dangers that can be found on the roads and highways, it is for this reason that every day receives thousands of people who seek to know this space and at the same time give their thanks for the protection and favors provided, which has led this place to become a state heritage and the image of Christ is considered the patron of the state of Anzoátegui.
Lo cierto es que en la cultura popular no importa mucho de dónde provenga la imagen, en los que todos concuerdan es que se trata de un Cristo Milagroso, el cual suele proteger a viajeros y turistas de los peligros que se puedan hallar por las carreteras y autopistas, es por esta razón que cada día recibe a miles de personas quienes buscan conocer este espacio y al mismo tiempo dar su agradecimiento por la protección y los favores brindados, lo cual ha llevado a que este lugar se convierta en patrimonio del estado y la imagen del Cristo sea considerada como el patrono del estado Anzoátegui.
Knowing this place was truly very special, because beyond a small chapel is an open space full of gardens, where the colors are very bright and vivid, where the sun seems to be a pause to let us walk and where good energy, peace and tranquility are combined with a fresh and pure air, no doubt it is a perfect place for meditation and prayer, is a mystical space that all those who pass through the highway towards Barcelona or Piritu should know, I must also tell you that I took the opportunity to ask the Christ of Jose for his support and blessings on this trip and all those to come, I also see a prayer for all those travelers around the world who are in the middle of a journey or in the middle of an adventure, so that we can all enjoy the most of the goodness of life and to return to our homes safe and sound with many experiences to tell.
Conocer este lugar fue verdaderamente muy especial, ya que más allá de una pequeña capilla se trata de un espacio abierto lleno de jardines, en donde los colores son muy vivos y brillantes, en donde el sol pareciera ser una pausa para dejarnos caminar Y en donde las buenas energías, la paz y la tranquilidad se conjugan con un aire fresco y puro, sin duda alguna es un lugar perfecto para el recogimiento y la oración, es un espacio místico que todos aquellos que transcurren por la autopista con dirección a Barcelona o Píritu deben conocer, además debo contarles que aproveché la oportunidad para pedirle al Cristo de Jose su apoyo y sus bendiciones en este viaje y en todos aquellos que están por venir, además también le veo una plegaria por todos aquellos viajeros que alrededor del mundo se encuentran en plena travesía o en medio de una aventura, para que todos podamos disfrutar al máximo de las bondades de la vida y poder retornar a nuestras casas sanos y salvos con muchas experiencias que contar.
