Visiting the island "BORN OF FIRE" CAMIGUIN ISLAND in MINDANAO πŸ–οΈ

in Pinmapple β€’ 2 years ago

My best friend and I visited Camiguin island together before the pandemic. It was a great trip for us. Since we never been around that much together since we moved back to the Philippines.

CAMIGUIN is a small island but it has a lot to offer. It's a forty minute ferry ride from the port of Balingoan. It also can be accessed from Bohol and even on a plane. Camiguin has active and inactive volcanoes around. The famous Mt. Hibok hibok which last erupted back in 1951.

Camiguin is one of the tourist destinations in Northern Mindanao.

And what's being cute about this trip is that it has a small Jollibee stall around the center.

IMG_7702.jpg

Jollibee is like MCDONALD'S in the Philippines. And it's a big thing. Knowing that you can always have your fave fast food around is just a hit.

The island is so peaceful and mostly has local tourists around. We stayed there for four days and rented out some motorbikes with the driver himself. We went to different places during our stay.

We visited the Old Guiob Church ruins. Which has been left during the eruption of the other volcano called Mt. Vulcan in 1871.

Then we travelled to see the sunken cemetery. The sunken cemetery is also the product of Mt. Vulcan eruption that causes the whole community cemetery to sink into the water due to the eruption.

There's some amazing souvenirs and some local delicacies displayed around the area.

And of course the traditional island souvenirs t-shirts for tourists.

As the island has a lot of active and inactive volcanoes. It has some amazing sulphur hot springs that we visited during one of the nights of our stay.

Then we took a quick walk to a place on the walkway to the old volcano. Which is quite famous during the lenten season as many pilgrims come to visit the island during that time as they have stations of the cross along the way.

IMG_20220817_184558.jpg

We also visited one of their famous waterfalls. The Katibawasan waterfall. It's just beautiful. And we are lucky enough as we are the only visitors around. In every tourist spot, there's a donation fee or environmental fee to be paid.

IMG_20220819_222618.jpg

It's quite cold to swim as the water is freezing cold. But, the freshness and the showering drops from the waterfall doesn't stop us.

Our last day on the island. We went to the famous two white islands in Camiguin. The white island which they only have specific time to visit. But it's like heaven. Pure white fine bar sand surrounded by fresh blue turquoise water. They offered some big umbrellas so guests can be under the shade if the sun goes very hot during the day. Food is not allowed. It feels like in the movie. It's so surreal.

You'll never get tired of it for sure. The serenity of the island as you are sorrounded with beautiful nature itself.πŸ’™πŸ–οΈπŸ€

One of the best island I've ever been so far. πŸ–οΈπŸ₯°

Then, the last stop was the island called Mantigue. The island is bigger than white island and has a lot of trees around. They also have places to dine and some places to stay under the shade of the warming sand. There are people selling some souvenirs , fresh food and you can rent some diving stuff on the island too. My best friend and I decided to rent some gear for snorkelling. Camiguin is very famous for having the best clamps around the philippines. There's a clam sanctuary on the island that was not open yet again to the public when we visited there. But, luckily we were able to see it on the Mantigue island as our tour guide showed us where to find the big clams . It was magical. Like how it grows there closing and opening and how vibrant and amazing it was. Alongside the school of nemos swimming like they are trying to say hello to you. It was a very raw experience that I will never forget for a lifetime. πŸ’œπŸ–οΈ

We also walk around and meet some locals having their daily lives routine. Drying some fresh catch fish and some seaweeds.πŸ€

A surely great experience that is part of the page of my book. It was an awesome experience as I also shared it with my best friend. Surely one of the best Philippines travel so far.
