The most important independence monument in Venezuela (ESP/ENG)

La historia política de Suramérica está estrechamente ligada a la independencia de Venezuela, por ser quizás el epicentro hace más de 200 años de la búsqueda de separación política del reino español.

Para la conmemoración del primer centenario de la Batalla de Carabobo, se realizó en Venezuela, la creación de este monumento inspirado en dicho enfrentamiento bélico, según palabras de Simón bolívar, la transendencia de este importante evento se ve reflejado en el parte militar que tuvo que realizar para el congreso de la Nueva Granada( actual Colombia); “Ayer se ha confirmado con una espléndida victoria el nacimiento político la República de Colombia”.

Esta batalla enfrento a más de diez mil hombres, entre los bandos realistas y patriotas, las tropas ibéricas estaban comandadas por Miguel de la Torre mientras el ejercito venezolano, estaba liderado por José Antonio Páez, para Bolívar, esta situación alarmante, no solo le otorgaba mayor gloria e importancia a esta victoria, sino comenzaría el desencadenamiento definitivo por conquistar el poder político del territorio conocido hasta ese momento como la Capitania General de Venezuela. “El ejército español pasaba de seis mil hombres, compuesto de todo lo mejor de las expediciones pacificadoras. Este ejército ha dejado de serlo. Cuatrocientos hombres habrán entrado hoy a Puerto Cabello. El Ejército Libertador tenía igual fuerza que el enemigo, pero no más que una quinta parte de él ha decidido la batalla. Nuestra pérdida no es sino dolorosa: apenas 200 muertos y heridos”.

La construcción de este espacio histórico estuvo presidida por Juan Vicente Gomez,Tuvo una construcción por alrededor de 2 años, la cual permitió crear el primer espacio histórico de Venezuela.

The construction of this historical space was presided over by Juan Vicente Gomez. It took about 2 years of construction, which allowed the creation of the first historical space in Venezuela.

El monumento está formado por 2 columnas de 28 metros de altura que se juntan en un arco de triunfo que posee diversas inscripciones, las columnas fueron edificadas para simbolizar "la paz" y "la victoria". En los alrededores de la estructura existen otros monumentos, plazas y estatuas construidas entre el período comprendido entre 1921 y 1936.​

The monument is formed by 2 columns of 28 meters high that meet in a triumphal arch that has several inscriptions, the columns were built to symbolize "peace" and "victory". In the surroundings of the structure there are other monuments, squares and statues built between 1921 and 1936.​
