Morning Stillness at the Marina
With first light, during the golden hour in Durban, before the harbour comes to life, there is a time when even the water is quiet; everything seems to be quiet, peaceful... as if things slow down even more. The water is like glass, showing beautiful reflections.
Signs of the Activity Awaiting the New Day.
The water is smooth, almost mirror-like. Yet, you can sense the activity that is awaiting the new day when you observe the signs in front of you.
Unique to Durban, two Customs boats are docked next to one another. And next to them is Phakisa, a marine research boat, ready for action. And behind these boats, the city skyline of Durban, where the normal hustle and bustle of the day will be in full swing again shortly.

But it's not all about work. Signs of leisure are noticeable all over the marina as private boats and yachts are docked and invite you to a relaxed day out on the ocean.

It's almost hard (and sad) to imagine all the activity that will soon be coming back to life again while absorbing this peaceful scene in front of you.
Taking in the Sounds.
At this time of day, you can appreciate the sounds that will soon get absorbed by the loud noise of city life and traffic passing by.
I just stood there, drinking in the soft sound of rigging lines tapping against the masts.

Further down, I could hear the joyful singing of birds as they welcomed the new day.

Reflection
It's amazing how these still moments of the early morning often carry the most beauty of the day. It reminds me of the motto I live by: "Slow down. Slower is often faster".
Standing there, I could feel the calmness. I was relaxed in my whole body. How often have I proved to myself that when I am in this state of mind, I get more done in a shorter time and I still have energy left when I'm done?
Note: In a few weeks, these calm waters will mirror the hulls of great ocean liners — but for now, the marina belongs to the quiet.
I plan on doing a series of at least three big Cruise liners visiting Durban during November. Watch this space.

Your observations of Durban Harbour before the hustle and bustle are truly beautiful. The morning stillness, the glassy water, and the slight ripples of the rigging create a very intimate and reflective atmosphere. Your story captures a moment when the world is still awake, when everything is simple and full of potential.
May this series of photos and stories continue to bring calm like the soft morning light, bridging the gap between silence and the activity to come. Continue sharing this often-forgotten beauty, for from silence come the most powerful stories.
Thank you for your great feedback, @ponpase! It is highly appreciated!!
Such a peaceful scene! 😍
Can’t wait to see your posts about the cruise liners arriving, must be quite a contrast to this calm!
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your feedback, @gabrielatravels! Yes, I am looking forward to those cruise liners arriving here in Durban!
The landscape reflect a good sunset, so stunning..
I'm glad you enjoyed my photos, @isdarmady! Thanks for stopping, and have a great day!
Great lighting, the photos look really cool. I am surprised there weren't any really big yachts, these are all actually quite modestly sized.
Thank you for your feedback, @giathebao! I do appreciate it!
Durban is a place I admire so much. My Dad was from there. I also have a very close friend who lives there! But, believe it or not, I have never quite been able to make the extra couple of kilometers from East London To Durban. East London is the furthest I've been up the East coast (I'd like to spend more time there too. My only visit there was a very brief one for work and I had very little time to experience it on my own. It's especially special to me as my mom and her whole family are from there). It's a long way from Cape Town, but the drive is so beautiful. Also, flying is ridiculously expensive and its not like you can opt to stop off for rest beaks, to admire a patch of something really beautiful - of which there is plenty on the garden route.
Your images remind me of how our beaches look right now, just before silly season arrives and all the tourists hit our seaside towns. If you still want to enjoy the beach, you have to find ones that are a bit out of the way and not popular tourist attractions. I suppose it's fun though if you think about it. Also, as someone who doesn't have a swimming pool at home and is a complete water baby, whether it's the sea or pools) I need to find a place to swim! I do have a gym membership so I will be visiting them on the hot days that lie before us!
Hi @clairemobey! Yes, maybe it's time for you to explore a little further up than East London...lol. Especially since your mom's family is also from Durban!
Yes, we are also making the most of the beaches before the silly season starts. But then we start searching for those quiet, remote beaches, yet they still have to be safe to go to...
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your great feedback! I do appreciate it!
How are you, friend? I hope you are well. How beautiful it is. Where can I get water? Water is indeed a transparent substance.
Hi @bakulali! Yes, it's lovely to be by the water! Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!
