Here on the USA, there are people demanding a wall across the entire Mexican border. This is especially peculiar to me as an elder Millennial who remembers how much we condemned the Berlin Wall as the physical embodiment of totalitarianism and how freedom of movement was supposedly a human right just 40 years ago. We celebrate people who ran the gauntlet of guards, dogs, and mines in the trench between the parallel walls, or built home-made hot air balloons, or tried to tunnel beneath. Now our leaders tell us to embrace a new wall here and hate any who get past it.
